Tasked with protecting England from vampires, the Hellsing Organization's best weapon happens to be one. Alucard is an ancient, overwhelmingly powerful vampire who works for Sir Integra Hellsing, and he's the kind of character who walks into a room full of monsters and genuinely enjoys what comes next. In the first episode, he rolls up to a village overrun by a rogue vampire priest, and during the chaos, a young police officer named Seras Victoria gets caught in the crossfire. Alucard gives her a simple choice: die human or live as a vampire. She chooses to live, and now she's stuck navigating what that means while working for an organization that kills things like her for a living. This 10-episode OVA is the faithful manga adaptation that the original 2001 TV series wasn't. The animation quality is genuinely impressive — Madhouse handled the early episodes, and the action sequences have weight and brutality to them. It's a seinen series with a gothic military horror tone, heavy on gore, and it doesn't pull back from that. The soundtrack leans hard into the atmosphere too. If you liked the stylish violence of Black Lagoon or the dark vampire mythology in Blood+, this sits comfortably in that space. Fans of Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust will also find a lot to appreciate here. It's dark, it's bloody, and it knows exactly what it wants to be.
