Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom - Dawn of the Shinsengumi

An ending I wish had been different. I didn't expect Ryunosuke to end up not becoming a member of the Roshigumi. It's kind of sad how it ended, but it's definitely a good series.

A good episode for me. It had a good bit of action at the end, and they finally managed to stop Niimi. One more final episode.

The first half focused on Serizawa, and of course, he caused more problems. But the second half was nice, as the Lord of Aizu granted them a new name in recognition of their good work. It's just that the lack of action scenes made the episode a bit boring.

The start was really nice, with Ryunosuke getting closer to Kosuzu and even buying a souvenir for her. Then Serizawa just had to ruin the rest of the episode, bruh. Still, the little bit of action at the end was a nice touch.

It's nice to see that Ryunosuke has finally started training. It's also great to see him getting along with Saitou, not just the other Roshigumi members. It makes me think that he'll eventually become one of them.

Personally, I think this is a really good episode. Seeing Heisuke willing to cut down anyone who stands against his beliefs is pretty cool. I also hope Ryunosuke starts training soon so he can help out when the situation calls for it.

A breathtaking, high-fidelity, I can say, for the final episode of the season. Studio Deen maximises the budget for the legendary, rain-slicked assassination of Serizawa. The animation fills the screen with blazing fireplace reflections, slicing steel arcs, and heavy splatters of blood, bringing the dark, historical origin story to a triumphant but heartbreaking close.

Shocking betrayals and irreversible decisions turn the visual tone into pure tragedy. The graphics feature a heavy, rain-soaked gray filter that strips the village of all its vibrant color. The animation sparkles with the horrifying crimson eyes of a rogue, setting a truly dark, hopeless mood.

High-octane political shifts lead to a massive, official transformation. The visual production peaks as the iconic pale blue and white mountain-striped haori uniforms are finally unveiled. The animation goes completely all-out, using crisp lighting to show the pride and heavy burden etched into the faces of the newly named Shinsengumi.

Emotional character growth anchored by a beautiful, expansive outdoor landscape. The visual direction utilizes stunning wide shots of Kyoto's famous wooden bridges and green river banks. The peaceful, natural afternoon sunlight offers a comforting but temporary escape from the violent, bloody reality of their military duties.

A brilliant, character-driven examination of financial desperation and moral decay. The visual framing relies heavily on dim candlelight inside low-ceilinged rooms, casting heavy, brooding shadows over the main characters' faces. The graphics highlight a stack of gold coins, drawing the viewer’s eye to the corruption ruining the Roshigumi name.

A touching, quiet detour into Kyoto's traditional entertainment districts. The scenery transitions beautifully to the elegant, lantern-lit corridors of a high-class geisha house. The background art utilizes soft, warm pastel lighting to capture the delicate, flowing silk kimonos and intricate hairpins of the geisha performers.

The introduction of the supernatural Water of Life introduces a terrifying, sci-fi horror visual aesthetic. The graphics use a distinct, sickly red aura effect surrounding characters who consume the experimental drug. The animation captures the unnatural, twitching body movements of the test subjects, creating immense psychological dread.
