A gritty, high-fidelity historical prequel by Studio Deen. The visual presentation sets a beautifully bleak atmosphere, tracking Ryunosuke Ibuki as he collapses from starvation on a dust-blown road. The introduction of the Roshigumi features sharp, moody shadow casting and the intimidating, cold gleam of samurai swords under a dim sky.

I must say, the animation is really impressive for a 2012 anime. There hasn't been any action yet, as this episode mostly serves to introduce the main characters. I can't really say there's much of a buildup so far, but I'll keep watching.

The animation was really good and it’s the type of art style that I like. Studio Deen really did a great job for this. There’s a lot of characters, as always, so it’s kinda hard remembering their names. Though Toshi art style really got me so hooked hehe. It’s mostly talk and plans and the flow is kinda good for the first ep.
