Ed trading his entire gate for Al was the ultimate move because it proved he finally understood that people matter way more than any power or alchemy trick and seeing him smile at Truth was everything

i honestly didn't think edward would have the guts to give up his alchemy forever, but his logic about the portal leading him astray was so smart and it really showed how much he grew up since the first episode. seeing him choose his brother over that power was the only way this could have ended, and it finally brought them both home.

al being so skinny and weak when ed finally found him at the gate made my heart sink but seeing them walk out together was perfect

the way edward just started punching the father with his bare hands while everyone was cheering for him felt like the best kind of payback

I can't believe Ed actually gave up his alchemy to get Al back and then Truth just laughed because it was the right answer all along and my eyes are literally leaking right now

hohenheim finally getting to rest in front of trisha's grave was such a gut punch, especially when pinako finds him looking so peaceful the next morning

i can't believe edward just gave up his gate like that and he really told truth that his friends matter more than being a talented alchemist

you really see how much greed changed when he turned the father into carbon and then said he had enough just because he had friends

Hohenheim dying at the grave actually broke me, like he finally got to be a father and heard Ed call him that before he went. I thought I was ready for the end but seeing him turn to stone while smiling at Trisha is something I'm never going to forget and then Al saying everything felt warm made it even worse

watching the shadow hands drag the father back into the darkness of the flask while he was screaming in terror felt like the best way to end that monster

That lie Greed told to Ling just to save him was the ultimate move and then he died with that smile because he finally had real friends and it was actually the best ending for him

greed calling ling his friend and then lying to save him actually hurt and then seeing him smile while he faded away was just way too much

truth laughing because edward finally figured out that being a normal human is better than having god powers was such a satisfying way to get al back

When Al finally woke up in his real body and felt the sun for the first time it made the whole journey worth it and May crying while hugging him was the cutest thing

Hearing Ed call Hohenheim a rotten father right before the big sacrifice felt so real and then he chose to be a normal human instead of a god which is such a massive moment for him

Truth dragging Father into that void was so satisfying after everything he did to everyone and seeing his gate being totally blank just showed how empty he really was compared to the humans he hated

That carbon trick Greed used on Father was a total genius play, and his final realization about not being lonely anymore really gave his character the sendoff he deserved after being such a jerk

My heart actually stopped when that simple stick drew the final circle because he knew exactly what the price for Al was without needing a stone or anything evil

it makes so much sense that the father had a totally blank gate because he never actually learned anything or cared about people his whole life

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 63 of 64 stands as the penultimate chapter, arriving directly after the protagonists' fierce counterattack against Father and carrying the full weight of the series' climactic confrontation. The critical decisions made here by Edward, Alphonse, and Hohenheim represent the culmination of the Elric brothers' entire journey — every lesson learned and bond forged across the series converges in this episode. It feeds directly into 'Journey's End,' the series finale, which will deliver the resolution and closure this episode sets into motion.
