crying when winry was holding that gun and edward told her that her hands were made to save people was just too much and it was so sad seeing her finally realize who killed her parents

I honestly lost my mind when Father started singing about Jeremiah being a bullfrog in that creepy lair of his, because it was so out of nowhere and then the Hohenheim kissy request to Ling just finished me off and it is so weird seeing these intense dramatic moments get completely ruined by the cast just messing around and having the best time

Hearing the ground control officer scream about calling Major Tom during that massive fortress explosion was such a perfect reference and you can tell the actor was just having a blast with it

I finally understand why everyone says this is a huge episode because the tension between Winry and Scar was so heavy and it felt very real. My heart broke for her when she realized the person she was helping was the one who killed her parents and Edward handled it perfectly by reminding her who she really is.

I was a mess after that scene with Winry and the gun because seeing her break down like that after finding out the truth about Scar was just too much for me

Scar just straight up telling Bradley "fuck you" when he asked for his name was such a wild shift from the usual tension and I can't stop rewatching it

Alphonse is usually the sweetest kid ever so hearing him call Heinkel an asshole while trying to save his life was honestly hilarious to hear

My stomach was turning during the Lan Fan scenes and her loyalty to Ling is one of the most intense parts of this whole arc

Winry seeing the backs of the people she loves leaving her again is such a sad realization, and it makes the title of the episode hit way harder after that ending.

It was so funny when Mustang got those agricultural terms mixed up with his own perverted thoughts, especially since Falman was the one who had to dryly correct him while looking at those papers

I was dying when Scar yelled "your face explode" at Father while grabbing his head and the way Father just stood there with those wide eyes made the whole thing ten times funnier

That parallel between the arm sacrifice for Al and what happened with Scar and his brother in Ishval was a smart detail and it makes Scar feel like a real person

The moral debate about whether Winry should have pulled the trigger is going to stay with me, but Ed was right that she shouldn't have to ruin herself for revenge.

Winry hitting Ling with the Joey Tribbiani line was such a weird surprise because she was so smooth with it and Ling looked so confused

Olivier telling Mustang that flowers suck ass while he was trying to be all romantic was comedy gold because his smug face at the end was hilarious

Watching Scar realize what he did to the doctors who saved him was a massive beat and it really complicates how he fits into the story

Scar is more than a villain after seeing what he went through in Ishval and the loss of his brother explains so much about his hatred for the military

Ling is a beast for holding his own against Bradley and Gluttony at the same time and I did not expect him to be that capable in a fight

Episode 22 is such an underrated gem. The wholesome Edward and Winry moment adds heart, while Scar’s tense presence keeps everything on edge. Then the ending song kicks in at the perfect time, creating pure emotional hype—an often overlooked moment that hits really hard.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Following Scar's volatile return to Central in the previous episodes, episode 22 shifts from external conflict to deeply personal stakes, forcing long-simmering tensions between key characters into the open. This marks a crucial emotional turning point roughly a third of the way through the series, deepening the thematic groundwork around vengeance and mercy that will echo throughout later arcs. It directly bridges into 'Girl on the Battlefield,' transitioning from personal revelation toward broader consequences in the escalating national conflict.
