READTHROUGH
The Impossible Dream of Ai
In the rain-drenched alleyways of Hole, Professor Kasukabe observes a grim ritual, the execution of a sorcerer. He brings the body back to his cluttered lab, a familiar, macabre task. A young Ai Coleman sits with him, absorbing Kasukabe’s explanations of why a human cannot become a sorcerer, yet his silence speaks of a deep, unyielding defiance. Kasukabe recounts his own wife was a sorcerer, perhaps explaining his morbid interest, but it only fuels Ai’s silent obsession, a desire to escape the fate of those who are prey.
Kasukabe's Grim Harvest
Years later, Kasukabe toils over a patient, brutally mutilated by magic, his efforts ending in another flatline. He watches a funeral procession from his window, a common sight that underscores the ceaseless defeat in his work. He wonders if his grim efforts have any true meaning in a world so indifferent to human suffering. This quiet moment emphasizes the heavy toll of his profession, painting him as a man burdened by an unwinnable war.
A Predator's Resolve
A younger Kasukabe shares ramen with Ai on a rusted rooftop, a rare moment of peace, but the conversation soon turns. Ai listens to Kasukabe’s musings about the sky connecting to the sorcerer's world, but his own thoughts are far darker. He voices his hatred of being prey, a stark rejection of his human lot. The professor realizes Ai’s desire for magic is born of a profound anger, a visceral need to turn the tables on those who hunt him.
The Toxic Rebirth
The turning point arrives at the toxic lake, where sorcerers casually discard bodies. Ai falls in, perhaps accidentally, perhaps by grim design, and vanishes beneath the black sludge. Kasukabe rescues him, bringing him back to the clinic where Ai lies dying, his body ravaged. With a weak, blood-flecked whisper, Ai commands Kasukabe to perform a dangerous, unethical surgery using a harvested sorcerer's organ. Kasukabe, seeing the boy's despair, agrees, giving him a last, desperate hope, transforming his physical despair into a medical gamble.
A Fleeting Hope
The surgery is a miraculous success; Ai survives, bandaged from head to toe, slowly healing. He tells Kasukabe he felt reborn in the toxic lake, claiming he became magic itself, forever changed. Yet, the very next day, Ai is found dead in an alley, his body lifeless. Kasukabe looks at Ai’s blood-stained cap, a poignant symbol of a dream that promised rebirth but delivered only a swift, brutal end.
Echoes of Ai
The narrative shifts abruptly to the sorcerer's world, where Shin, Noi, and Fujita gather at a yakitori stall. Fujita, eager to impress, recounts his findings about Ai Coleman, revealing that the boy's records were never properly filed and that a doll in En's mansion was modeled after him. This suggests Ai might not be as gone as Kasukabe believes, stirring new intrigue for Shin and linking the tragic past to their present investigation. Ebisu sits silently, ignored, as the rain begins to fall.
Ebisu's Grand Return
Ebisu takes center stage, recounting her own fractured memories: losing herself after a lizard-headed man's attack, regaining fragments with En's mushrooms, and now her determined journey home. She navigates the grungy subway, ignoring a persistent stranger, then passes through a tense encounter with an old acquaintance seeking "black powder." Her mission is clear: to reclaim her forgotten life as a refined young lady, no matter the bizarre obstacles.
The Face in the Mirror
Arriving at her opulent mansion, Ebisu’s anticipation turns to shock when another "Ebisu" answers the door, masked in plush pink sheep-like disguise. The impostor claims to be the true daughter of the house. As the impostor reveals a face identical to Ebisu’s memories, the real Ebisu screams, her very identity stolen. An old nanny reveals the terrible truth: the parents fled, and the impostor is a monstrous creation. The monster then transforms, attacking the nanny as Ebisu flees into the terrifying labyrinth of her own home.
Quiet Moments, Lingering Questions
Away from the horror, Caiman and Nikaido enjoy a rare moment of peace at a sorcerer resort, relaxing in a hot spring, Caiman without his lizard mask. Later, on a moonlit balcony, Nikaido asks Caiman if he would stay in the sorcerer's world if his identity was restored. Caiman is thoughtful, admitting he feels most himself with her, but the path ahead remains uncertain. Their quiet conversation ends the episode, a poignant counterpoint to the earlier violence, leaving their ultimate destinies unresolved.
EPISODE REVIEWS

This episode slows the pace a little. The soundtrack really stood out to me here.

Un episodio de revelaciones, terror y suspenso, además de resolver algunos misterios que habían. Se nota el giro hacia el terror gore en la trama de Ebisu.

Every episode has its own plot twist! Every episode receives a cliffhanging ending! THAT'S WHAT I LIKED IN THIS ANIME! THE MIND TWIST. MIND MESSED UP! I LOVED IT! THE BACKSTORY OF OUR CHARACTER IS GETTING DEEPER AND DARKER! THIS IS DOROHEDORO!🦎
