You can really tell this was made by the Iczer-One director because the visual style is so distinct and Mako has that perfect classic look while dealing with those creeps

The animation on Mako shows why she is such a classic character even if the plot is pretty dark and stressful with how those men treated her in the alley

I can see why people talk about Hirano starting out here because the way he draws Mako makes her look so much more innocent than the situations she ends up in. The musical hallucination stuff was bizarre, but seeing those guys corner her made me feel genuinely terrible. It is a weird mix of being very pretty to look at and extremely uncomfortable.

That sequence where Mako starts hallucinating because of the music was super weird and trippy and it feels like a really strange way to get into the adult stuff

I hate seeing what Mako has to go through in this part because she is so sweet and seeing those guys corner her was actually really hard to watch

the visuals are the only thing keeping this together because Mako is such a confused character and watching her internal battle is just exhausting after a while

mako and nene have a really weird dynamic and the way the episode sets up their tension makes the whole cliffhanger ending feel even more annoying

Having those two separate personalities literally manifest and argue over Mako's choices made for a really weird psychological experience, and the symphony scenes definitely benefited from that shift in tone

I really wasn't expecting this episode to spend so much time on Mako's head space, and those two separate versions of her fighting over what she should do with Nene were pretty funny. The art style by Hirano is definitely the best part so far because it makes the whole experience feel way more polished than the previous installments in this anthology

this definitely feels like half a story and it mostly just builds up Mako being a mess before it cuts away right at the climax

the way this show handles modesty is so over the top but seeing Mako lose it during the symphony scenes is hilarious and bizarre

the character designs for Mako and Nene look so much better than the earlier episodes because Hirano and Kakinouchi are just on another level with their style

ending right when Mako gets into that creative dilemma is such a tease and now you have to wait for the next part to see what happens with Nene

Mako trying to fight her own perverted thoughts while those two mini versions of her argued actually made me feel bad for her for a second

I thought those two other versions of Mako popping up to yell at her was such a strange way to show her being horny and shy at the same time

Anyone who has ever tried to make art can relate to Mako being stuck on those pages. Nene stepping in as a practice partner was a wild way to solve a creative block

My heart sank for Nene when Yu confessed his feelings to Mako because her reaction was so clearly painful to watch, and now everything is about to get messy between them

Watching Nene suggest they practice romance just to help Mako with her manga was such a bold move. Nene obviously wanted way more than just a drawing lesson

The character designs by Hirano and Kakinouchi are so gorgeous. You can really see that classic mid eighties aesthetic in every single frame of Mako and Nene together

I feel for Mako trying to draw those romance scenes when she has no idea what she is doing. That frustrated look on her face while staring at the blank paper was so real

EPISODE CONTEXT

Cream Lemon operates as an anthology, with largely self-contained stories rotating between unrelated casts. This episode follows 'Escalation 2: Forbidden Sonata' and marks a clean break — introducing Mako and her world from scratch. As a Part 1, it functions entirely as setup, establishing Mako's creative dilemma and her relationship with Nene before the narrative pays off in Part 2.
