Seeing how far the genre has come since this dropped makes me appreciate the weird laser sword fight in the middle even more

The way they blended the fantasy elements with that old school sci-fi vibe is cool, even if the plot is basically just an excuse for the fanservice.

That space sequence had some weirdly smooth movement for a ninety minute ova and the colors were really popping

I really miss this specific era of character design and Kei looks great in the fantasy outfits they picked for her

The animation style in this one is such a throwback and those sci-fi backgrounds look so much better than the digital stuff we get now

The pacing was a bit slow, but it really helped build that specific atmosphere they were aiming for with this episode

Kei usually feels like a caricature but here she felt like a person with actual regrets and it made the whole thing feel more mature

Seeing a series this old try something more serious and quiet was a surprise and the melancholy tone actually landed well

The sci-fi elements took a backseat here so the focus stayed on the character moments and it gave the episode a grounded feeling

I went into this expecting the usual weirdness from this series but this episode was actually kind of sad, the way it focuses on Kei and her own thoughts instead of just the usual comedy bits makes it feel special. It is definitely a slower watch but the visuals had this dreamlike quality that I really liked for a finale

That specific scene with the cherry blossoms in the wind captured the whole mood of the ending and it was surprisingly beautiful for an old ova

The animation style here feels so much softer and it really fits that melancholy mood they were going for with Kei in this short

Kei just staring out at the world felt weirdly lonely for a show like this and the change in pace made the episode stand out

I found the introspective side of the series more engaging than the random scenes and the music actually felt right for the mood

I think the quiet vibe of this one worked way better than the weird slapstick stuff and it actually felt like Kei had some depth for once

That scene on the balcony was surprisingly quiet, and seeing Kei just sit there in the dark made the whole melancholy vibe really click for me.

you can tell she is just going through the motions and that one shot of the sunset made the ending feel so empty

the way she just stares out the window while thinking about her past really hits you hard and the art style has that perfect old school vibe

I actually felt bad for Kei during that train scene and the music made the whole thing feel so much more lonely than I expected

EPISODE CONTEXT

At episode 30 of 38, Cream Lemon is deep in its final stretch, having cycled through a wide range of anthology stories across its run. This episode does not carry direct narrative continuity from prior entries, consistent with the series' standalone format, but its tone echoes earlier character-driven vignettes rather than more fantastical or comedic installments. With only eight episodes remaining, 'Cherry Melancholy' represents a quieter, introspective note before the series moves toward its conclusion.
