It felt a bit slower than the earlier Ami stories and the fantasy segments but the art was really clean

I finally got around to watching this Toshiki Yui special and the art style is just so distinctive compared to the rest of the series. The way they rendered the surface of Europa and the futuristic technology had a really cool 80s vibe that you don't see anymore. It felt a bit more focused on the atmosphere than the usual slapstick comedy.

Those retro space suits and the weird alien landscape were definitely the best part of the whole episode

The sci-fi setting on Europa looks way better than the typical dungeon fantasy stuff they usually do

I really dug the space aesthetic and how it blended with the classic Toshiki Yui character designs

Watching those sci fi elements mix with the usual fantasy stuff in these Toshiki Yui segments is pretty unique, and it was fun to see them all back to back

It jumps around a lot between different scenes and it can feel a bit disjointed if you were expecting a solid new story but the animation quality holds up okay

That classic retro futuristic look never gets old and seeing the Europa story beats again was a nice trip back to how these used to look and feel

You probably only need to watch this if you are a completionist because it really is just a highlight reel of things that happened in previous episodes but the sci fi backdrop is cool

I forgot how much I enjoyed the Europa segments until I sat down for this collection, Toshiki Yui has such a specific way of drawing characters that feels so distinct from the rest of the series, and having them all gathered together here shows off that sci-fi fantasy blend, It is a bit of a retread but the art still carries it

Those character designs by Toshiki Yui are definitely the standout here and seeing all the best moments in one place made it easy to appreciate the style again

My biggest issue is how little new footage there is and it felt like I was just watching a clip show of things I already finished weeks ago

This was mostly just a collection of stuff you have already seen if you followed the earlier parts but the sci fi scenes are still decent enough to watch through once

I really like how the older character designs look and seeing Europa again reminded me why these retro sci fi vibes are so cool

The background art for the Europa sections is actually pretty nice for an old ova and it captures that 80s space aesthetic perfectly without being too much

Pacing feels a bit slow compared to the Ami episodes but the hand-drawn backgrounds are gorgeous and it has that specific late 80s sci-fi aesthetic that you just cannot find anymore

You can tell Toshiki Yui put a lot of effort into the character expressions and the way the light reflects off the tech in those space scenes was a nice touch

It is a bit strange how quiet this episode is, but the atmosphere on that ship really sells the lonely space feeling before things get explicit

I actually liked the weird experimental vibe and the way they used the Europa setting for all the bizarre sci-fi visuals and the character designs definitely have that classic Yui look

Toshiki Yui has such a distinct art style compared to the rest of the series and the sci-fi setting feels way more detailed than expected for something from 1989

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 29 of 38, this entry arrives after 'Magic City Astalot' stretched the series into high fantasy territory, and it continues that outward-reaching creative momentum rather than pulling back toward the series' more grounded material. As a Toshiki Yui artist spotlight, it mirrors the anthology structure seen elsewhere in the run, functioning as a standalone showcase rather than a serialized beat. It sets the stage directly for 'Amagi Kei Best Hit: Cherry Melancholy,' signaling that the final stretch of the series will continue rotating through artist-driven specials before closing out.
