The emotional weight in this episode is incredible. The intense rivalries clash during the school tournament shows the pressure, and the visuals are stunning.

This episode was a delightful and kind of satire to watch in way of ayase playing karuta with tachi in their school. The talent of the main character was also seen in this episode so must watch.

Damn, I really do hate kids and their pettiness. But Chihaya is the exception, I love her so much :((( She's such a simpleton, it's adorable. I do feel bad that she's overshadowed at home, but I know she'll be recognized in the next episodes! She deserves it <3

Little Taichi is such a rascal, making true of his threat from the previous episode. The animation draws me in, the warm tone color makes it feels more fuzzy. I really like the characters too, even Taichi. Chihaya definitely stole the show for me, especially her and Arata's bond.

This episode is still about the flashback, and we get to understand Chihaya, Taichi, and Arata better. Taichi can be kinda annoying, but after that loss you can see some growth in him. Karuta actually looks really fun too, especially when someone skilled like Arata is playing!

the parents in this show are the actual problem fr. taichi's mom and chihaya's mom acting up while the kids just exist. also the kids being competitive lil gremlins is weirdly motivating for me as an adult lol

impressive how much character development they fit into less than two episodes. the childhood pacing works, you really feel the dynamic shift between the three. taichi's behavior reads as genuinely childish in a believable way.

chihaya hitting taichi with the 'whats lame about losing a fair fight' was such a SISTER moment girl SPILLED the kids motivating me harder than any peptalk has any business doing wtf

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off a premiere that established the central trio and their connection to karuta, episode 2 deepens those relationships by introducing friction—testing where Chihaya, Arata, and Taichi stand with each other and themselves. It functions as a critical bridge in the early stretch of 25 episodes, layering in the motivations and tensions that will fuel both the competitive karuta storyline and the personal drama across the full season. The groundwork being laid here directly feeds into the larger arcs of rivalry, self-discovery, and ambition that define Chihayafuru's trajectory.
