The aftermath of the big match is handled great in this episode. The emotional moments between the characters show exactly why they are so dedicated to pushing past their current limits.

i honestly just realized right now that this is basically a sports anime lowkey. finding out about the grandpa suffering from dementia made me so incredibly sad though. it is just really hard watching characters deal with that kind of heavy family stuff in the background.

the strategic decision to have desktomu utilize himself as a sacrificial pawn against the most dominant opposing player is a highly intelligent tactical move. it shifts the focus from individual athletic capability to broader team management and rotational awareness.

They literally guessed wrong and now she is out here HYPERVENTILATING on the floor. Seeing arata suddenly show up out of nowhere was absolutely crazy. And then sudo is just randomly there too making the whole situation even more stressful than it already was

This episode shows the realization and heartbreaking of wataya on his grandfather. He actually see the desire of his heart that he really loved karuta

I think this is the first time I have ever seen an anime tackle caregiver fatigue. As someone who personally experienced it, I love how accurately and sensitively it was handled. 10/10

Still not really sure what’s going on with Chihaya, feels like it’s not just her being sick. Even though it’s just getting started, the pressure already hits. And Arata’s flashback with his grandfather really hurts 😭 Kinda hyped for what’s coming next!

I'm sorry Taichi, I personally think Taichi is great with Chihaya, but I personally am more of an Arata fan lol. The twist in this episode was hinted very subtly at the beginning, which was great when delivered. I do like how we get more of Arata's backstory, and more moments too

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at the exact halfway mark of the season, this episode transitions Chihayafuru from its club-building and qualifying arc into the national tournament phase, raising the competitive and emotional stakes considerably. The previous episodes focused on assembling the Mizusawa team and earning their place at Omi Jingu, and this episode capitalizes on that groundwork by throwing the characters into an environment that tests everything they've built. It sets the stage for the back half of the season, where individual and team growth will be forged through increasingly intense national-level matches.
