Blue Miburo Season 2
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In 1863 Kyoto, a city tearing itself apart during the Bakumatsu era, a gentle-souled orphan named Nio Chirinu ekes out a quiet existence. After crossing paths with Toshizo Hijikata and Soji Okita, he gets swept into the Mibu Rōshi-gumi — the group that would eventually become the legendary Shinsengumi. Season one laid the groundwork, and now Serizawa Ansatsu-hen shifts focus to the internal power struggle that defined the group's early days, centered on Serizawa Kamo — a charismatic, volatile leader whose presence fractures the organization from within. The subtitle kind of gives away where this is heading, but the journey there is what matters. Nio's idealism collides with the reality that the people he admires aren't all noble warriors — some are political animals, and loyalty gets complicated fast. Maho Film handles the sword fights with real weight, and the historical setting feels grounded rather than romanticized. The moral dilemmas here aren't black and white, which gives the whole thing more texture than your average samurai show. If you liked Rurouni Kenshin's Bakumatsu backstory or the factional tension in Peacemaker Kurogane, this scratches a similar itch but through a fresh perspective — seeing events unfold through an outsider kid who's still figuring out what justice actually looks like. Fans of Hakuouki's Shinsengumi drama will find familiar ground here too, just with a shounen edge. This TV series drops in 2026 and picks up right where season one left off.
