Synopsis
What happens when a demon launches a YouTube channel? That's the premise of Black Channel, and it's exactly as weird as it sounds. Black is a demon who arrives in the human world not to conquer it or destroy it, but to make viral video content exposing the hidden sides of people, games, and hobbies. His trusty camerawoman is Camera-chan, a literal camera demon, and together they team up with Satoshi, a fifth-grader who already dreams of YouTube fame. The trio goes around filming unsuspecting humans — honor students, class idols, even other supernatural beings — and peeling back the polished facades people put up. It's a short-form ONA based on a manga, and the comedy leans into that dark, absurdist space where demons casually commentate on human insecurities like they're running a reaction channel. The whole thing plays like a supernatural variety show filtered through internet culture, which gives it a surprisingly modern feel despite the classic demon-in-the-human-world setup. If you grew up watching stuff like Kaibutsu-kun or Haunted Junction and wondered what those vibes would look like in the age of content creators and clout chasing, this is pretty much that. It's lighthearted enough for younger viewers but has enough edge in its humor to keep adults entertained. The episodes are quick, the gags land more often than not, and the dynamic between a scheming demon and an overeager kid YouTuber never really gets old.
