This episode focuses more on Nerimaya’s Rakugo performance. It’s delivered at a fast pace but we can keep up, though it takes serious focus since there’s a lot of info. At the end, a heartbreaking moment happens that feels like déjà vu from episode 1

This episode was seriously fun! While it focused on just the champion's retelling and show style, it really builds anticipation for Akane's show later on.. Master Issho grows more and more unlikeable.. he definitely leans towards a more traditional mindset??

I like how the series' gives different animation styles for different Rakugo performances and types! Nerimaya's "BM" rendition was really unique. Shows like Jugemu had a traditional vibe in its portrayal. The animation quality feels like its gone up!

I honestly thought Karashi would be sidelined as a side character, but he was surprisingly likeable? Despite his ego, his passionate perspective on Rakugo was refreshing. His performance made me feel like he was deserving of his winning place!

You can really tell the teacher is holding back all his anger; it almost seems like he’s going to explode at any moment. I need to see how Akane reacts.

And I was intrigued by the fact that Akane asked her mom why she’d given her that name. I wonder what her mom’s answer will be.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 7 opened the door to the Karaku Cup; Episode 8 throws you into the heat of it. With two-thirds of the season behind the story, the competition is now the crucible through which the series' central themes — tradition, ambition, and identity in rakugo — are being tested most directly. Karashi's performance here sets the competitive benchmark that looms over what's coming next, particularly as Akane's own moment in the spotlight draws closer.
