Happy Chinese New Year 2026: 3 Anime to Make You Laugh All Holiday Long

Happy Chinese New Year 2026! It might be a little early, but I hope everyone has a great New Year and laughs throughout the holidays. To help with that, I’m sharing three anime titles that will keep you laughing all holiday long! Whether you are celebrating Chinese New Year or not, wouldn’t it be great to just watch some anime and laugh the whole time?

There are plenty of great comedy anime out there, but among them all, there are three titles that I believe reach the highest level of comedy. Almost every episode will have you laughing the entire day! It might feel a little weird to be laughing all by yourself for hours, but since it's the Chinese New Year, let’s celebrate in a unique way and just laugh our way through it!

Before we dive any further, I know what you’re worried about. To ensure everyone has the best viewing experience, I won’t share too many details—I’ll stick to just the essential information you need to get started!

Baka & Test: Summon the Beasts:

The first anime I want to share and strongly recommend for the Chinese New Year is Baka & Test: Summon the Beasts (I’ll just call it Baka & Test from now on). Compared to hits like Gintama or Mashle: Magic and Muscles, Baka & Test might be a bit more obscure, and I assume many people haven't even heard of it before.

Baka & Test has a bit of a strange name, but don’t let that fool you! It is genuinely hilarious—even my friends who don’t really watch anime laughed so much at it. The story is quite simple: it’s all about Akihisa Yoshii and his classmates in Class F using all sorts of methods to try and get better results.

While I wouldn't exactly recommend their study habits to anyone else, Akihisa and his friends aren't exactly the type to hit the books—so most of the time, the methods they try are basically just cheating. In Baka & Test, there is a unique "Summoning" system, and Akihisa's crew is always trying to find ways to use it to get better results without actually studying.

It might be hard to see the humor just from my explanation, but the Avatar system really changes the game. When you can summon an avatar to help you pull off all kinds of schemes and cheats, that’s where the story gets hilarious. Since everyone in the school uses the system, other classes always fight back—and even the teachers join the war!

Besides the Avatar system, the everyday lives of Akihisa and his friends are also enough to keep you laughing all day long. Again, I wouldn't exactly recommend learning from them, but Akihisa and his friends certainly have their own unique hobbies and ways of spending time. When their daily lives are combined with the incredible talent of the voice actors, almost every scene becomes unforgettable!

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.:

The next anime I want to recommend is The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. (also known as Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan), a show that has satisfied me multiple times. It isn't just a great comedy to watch during the Chinese New Year; personally, I think it’s a "must-watch" for everyone. Much like Baka & Test, the story isn't difficult to follow. Although the series is quite long—spanning the original season, Season 2, the Final Arc, and finally The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.: Reawakened—the core premise remains simple and fun.

Even though there are four seasons, the story is basically just about our main character, Kusuo Saiki. He was born with incredible supernatural powers and just wants to hide them so he can live a peaceful life. Although Saiki can do anything you could imagine, there are no monsters or villains in this series; so, despite having an incredibly strong protagonist, it is a pure comedy.

Of course, it’s hard to imagine just how funny The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is from my explanation alone. One of the biggest highlights is the incredible voice acting—especially Hiroshi Kamiya. You might know him as the voice of Law from One Piece, Levi from Attack on Titan, Young All for One from My Hero Academia, and Seijuro Akashi from Kuroko's Basketball.

The voice acting really changes the whole game, especially since The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. moves at a much faster pace than other anime. Making sure every word is understandable while keeping up with that speed isn't easy, especially for Saiki. Because of his superpowers, Saiki doesn’t actually speak out loud; he communicates through telepathy, which means his inner thoughts are constant and hilarious.

Speaking every sentence clearly while maintaining that super high speed—all while sounding like a powerful psychic—is a huge challenge. Hiroshi Kamiya didn't just pull it off; he took it to the next level. To give you a quick example: watching Saiki K. is like watching Levi or Law being dragged into doing stupid, silly things all day long. Characters like Riki Nendo and Shun Kaidou constantly disrupt Saiki’s life, and watching him get dragged into their mess is genuinely funny.

Grand Blue Dreaming:

The last title I want to recommend is the legendary comedy anime, Grand Blue Dreaming. Unlike the other titles, before diving any further, I have to say: I do not recommend learning any behaviors or "facts" from this show! It is unquestionably one of the best comedies out there, but I understand it contains some scenes that might not be for everyone. I strongly recommend watching it—but just watch, don't try anything you see at home!

Similar to Baka & Test and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., the story of Grand Blue Dreaming is quite simple. Although it already has two seasons (with Season 3 on the way!), it is basically about the ridiculous university life of our main character, Iori Kitahara. Since the anime portrays a chaotic college experience where the characters doing silly things are adults, I’ll say it again: definitely watch it, but don't learn or try anything from it!

There are several reasons why Grand Blue Dreaming became a legendary comedy anime in just a few years. The first reason is, of course, the ridiculous everyday life Iori leads. While many comedy anime focus on daily life, Grand Blue Dreaming breaks through age barriers for both the characters and the viewers. By using more adult-oriented humor, it creates a unique and hilarious sense of comedy.

The second reason is the over-the-top facial expressions of the characters. These aggressive expressions are often a key factor in what makes a comedy great; the more extreme the characters' reactions, the funnier it is for the audience. A great example of this is Gintama—once you see the faces Gintoki makes, you can't unsee them! The same goes for Grand Blue Dreaming.

Starting with Iori, many of the characters have unforgettable expressions, even just in the first season. Whether it’s when Iori is drinking, plotting something mischievous, or even during the tennis competition, there are so many scenes that stick with you. Because the impact is so strong, you’ll remember them even if you’ve only watched them once—it really is just too funny!
