In this episode we saw Hakone Academy, and in particular we saw Onoda's main cycling rival Manami. We learn his backstory, his motivation to keep cycling. His whole character is someone who isn't malicious or even too competitive. He cycles because he wants to cycle, and honestly that is amazing and it's very in line with Onoda's thinking as well, which is what makes them good, healthy rivals to each other.
Getting to know the rival team was easily my favorite part here. It's nice that the series treats opponents as real people instead of obstacles waiting to be beaten. Their motivations make the upcoming competition feel much bigger, and now I'm genuinely interested in cheering for both sides.
A different perspective in this episode. This episode focused on Manami Sangaku and his lore. On the other hand, why doesn't Manami have a helmet? They see Makishima in different ways. But I personally think it's too colorful. I'm quite intrigued by what they watched. It's a different perspective.
