Synopsis
Every exam at the Ortigia Academy of Magic is a breeze for Alto Goldfield, except the one that matters most, because he can't summon a familiar to save his life or his academic career, and he's running out of options. Facing the threat of repeating a year, he digs up a dusty old grimoire and tries one last ritual. Instead of getting a cute animal companion, he accidentally unseals Vermeil, a centuries-old demon with immense power and zero concept of personal space. She agrees to be his familiar, which sounds great until you learn the contract requires daily mana transfers through kissing. His childhood friend Lilia, who's been quietly crushing on him, does not take this well. This 12-episode TV series from 2022 leans into its ecchi comedy without pretending to be something it isn't. The dynamic between Alto and Vermeil is genuinely fun: she's ancient and dangerously powerful but also playful and affectionate, while he's trying to navigate school life with a demon familiar who keeps causing scenes. The character designs are expressive and the fantasy school setting gives it room to mix lighthearted humor with actual magical stakes when Vermeil's sealed power starts drawing unwanted attention. If you liked the familiar-master chemistry in The Familiar of Zero or the supernatural school vibes of Rosario + Vampire and High School DxD, this hits a similar spot. It's a shounen fantasy with a youthful energy that knows exactly what kind of show it wants to be.

I'd say the conclusion is a 9/10. What lacked is the action with the main antagonist and Alto and Vermeil. I wish it had more. Also The whole season felt like a long prologue for a bigger picture in the future. I just really hope they'll make another season for this!
I now finally now everything. The past! And now everything is clear, I hope the cap of Vermeil is no more. Show them how powerful you really are! I hope to see some overpowered stuff in the final episode!
Looks like the build up here is finally the past details of our Vermeil. A really important plot for the whole season and basically the reason for everything. This and the next two episodes are a must not miss!
The way this episode ended, I already know the next episode will be filled with action, main plot issues and etc! A very very good build up for episode 9!
Not much of an action here but the build up for the next episode was great. They focused more on the plot and the past of some characters like Vermeil which is really really important!
I sure hope Alto accepts that offer. Imagine that one person being able to have a familiar like that and getting an offer from you know who? Damn I am pretty excited about this. I could not wait for the next one!
The season finale brings Alto and Vermeil's relationship to a much more serious crossroads. And nothing is better than a shy Vermeil.
Vermeil's past becomes the center of attention, and the tone gets heavier. The episode get on serious plot mode, no more fanservice.
Iolite's presence gives the episode a completely different kind of tension. His personality strangely entertaining because he's so confident while behaving like an absolute weirdo.
It's fun seeing the different students approach the same test with different levels of confidence. Alto's friend Marcus create a lot of funny scenes. The examiner has a nice personality
The council president immediately gives off the feeling that she has several things going on behind the scenes. Also the study scene is just crazy, let me join!
The aftermath of the previous episode leaves Alto and Vermeil's relationship feeling noticeably much sweeter. Alto is still awkward as hell.
The plot is kinda old school and cringe, and Alto think he is whitebeard from One Piece. Iykyk. Vermeil's fight scene is good tho
Tragic and sweet episode! I never expected that it would turn out to be like this! Without giving any spoilers, this is probably the best episode so far. Now it is raising a lot of questions for me!
The episode was really intense though I do not know the real goal or motive of Obsidian sensei. I just sure hope it will all be explained in the next episode since this is another cliffhanger. I had fun though since the effects and animation has budget! No cgi!
Cliffhanger episode! A lot has happened and not a single issue has been finished. Probably it's the point of the whole plot I guess? Also Vermeil is really adorable. She may look mature but the way I see it, she's like an innocent woman!
Hell yeah! An action packed episode. Almost half of the episode is the duel which is peak! Love the animation and no cgi is used which is a feast to my eyes. Though the battle is a cliffhanger and I want more!
I enjoyed seeing Chris actually get pushed instead of simply being presented as a powerful student. This episode has less ecchi comedy and more fantasy battle. Hope the battle ends sooner, i want more ecchi!
Alto's reactions are still comedy gold because this guy has absolutely no idea how to handle Vermeil. Obsidian just casually throw out a funny statement out of the blue.
