📖 SYNOPSIS

Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE is a Japanese anime series adapted from the manga of the same name by CLAMP, a renowned manga artist group known for Cardcaptor Sakura and xxxHolic. The anime, produced by Bee Train and directed by Kōichi Mashimo, premiered in Japan on April 9, 2005, airing 52 episodes across two seasons on NHK, concluding on November 4, 2006. A film, Tsubasa Chronicle the Movie: The Princess in the Birdcage Kingdom, was released on August 20, 2005, and two OVA series, Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations (2007–2008) and Tsubasa Spring Thunder Chronicles (2009), were later released by Production I.G. The series was licensed in North America by Funimation and broadcast in English by Animax starting in 2006. Set in the fictional Kingdom of Clow, the story follows Syaoran, a young archaeologist, and Sakura, the princess of Clow and his childhood friend, who are deeply connected but not the same characters as in Cardcaptor Sakura. When Sakura’s memories are scattered across multiple dimensions in the form of magical feathers, she falls into a catatonic state, and Syaoran embarks on a quest to retrieve them to save her life. Guided by the Dimensional Witch Yūko Ichihara, Syaoran is joined by Kurogane, a ninja exiled from his world, Fai D. Flowright, a magician fleeing persecution, and Mokona, a magical creature enabling interdimensional travel. Together, they journey through diverse worlds, facing challenges and uncovering complex truths about their pasts and destinies. The series is known for its crossovers with xxxHolic, intricate plot twists, and CLAMP’s signature blend of romance, adventure, and fantasy, though the anime deviates from the manga’s darker themes with filler episodes and an unresolved ending.
