I feel that either their love was too strong or not strong enough for them to want to stay together, or perhaps the episode simply doesn’t manage to show why they break up and don’t keep fighting for their love.

After a long wait, we finally got the long awaited reward. It did take a while with some slow pacing at the beginning, but quickly picked up toward the latter half. It's a bit tragic but ultimately super heart warming. Almost felt kind of sudden but you just need to sit back and think about the events that unfolded.
