That green tinged birth scene is going to be stuck in my head forever because of how detailed and grotesque the 80s animation style made it look

The way the animation shifts during the final destruction looks so gritty, and seeing the three worlds just crumble like that felt like a proper ending to the chaos

I thought the tentacles in the earlier parts were bad but the stuff in this finale is on a whole other level of twisted and Akemi deserved better

Nagumo being the false one makes the actual prophecy so much messier and seeing the entire world just get deleted by the true Overfiend is a total nightmare

the birth scene with Akemi was the grossest thing I have ever seen and my brain is actually melting right now after that ending
violet_evergarden_168's avatar
violet_evergarden_168
That final scene with the flames and the total destruction is definitely a bold way to end a series

This finale is a complete mess, and the story really starts to fall apart once the demons invade the city. It tries to be deep by showing how gross humans are, but then it just gives us ten minutes of tentacles and gore instead. It is hard to take the prophecy seriously when everything is so over the top and loud

The way they handle the human side of things makes everyone look so miserable and hateful before the demon world takes over

It feels like the director just wanted to see how much blood they could fit on screen while the world falls apart

My head was spinning when the demon realm started merging with ours because the visuals are just so disgusting and detailed

You can really see why this show has such a reputation because the tentacle stuff in the final battle is just way too much

I finally finished this trilogy and the ending for Nagumo was so twisted after all that buildup

Watching Nagumo finally change into the Chojin was messy and the whole city just gets wrecked

I can't believe how far they took the gore in this finale, and it definitely feels more like shock value than a deep story
lokomo's avatar

The plot really gets confusing near the end because there is just too much going on at once and it feels like the writers lost the thread

It felt so weird seeing Nagumo not be the actual Overfiend after all that buildup and my head is spinning from that twist

You see the entire universe basically die and restart because of what happens in Osaka and it is the most brutal ending possible
artemis's avatar

That Osaka Chojin appearing at the very end completely flips the mythology upside down and makes the previous episodes feel like a setup for something much worse
breemx1's avatar

Watching the whole world get wiped out while Amano just stands there makes the prophecy feel like a complete lie

I actually cannot believe Akemi gave birth to that thing and it just changed everything I thought about Nagumo

EPISODE CONTEXT

Following the escalating chaos of 'Curse of the Overfiend,' this third episode brings the prophecy-driven conflict that has defined the entire series to its breaking point, resolving the central threads surrounding the Chojin and the fates of the human, beast, and demon realms. As the concluding chapter of the original three-part OVA, it functions as both an ending and a threshold — closing this arc while leaving the mythology open enough to fuel the sequel series, 'Shin Choujin Densetsu Urotsukidoji Mataiden.'
