Hinami's mother is killed by Mado, but Kaneki saves the little ghoul. When Touka learns of this, she is determined to kill the investigator disguised as Rabbit. She engages in a fight with Kotaro Amon and Mado. Kaneki goes to Uta to get his new mask.

The scenes with the human investigators and scientists tracking the main cast try and make them relatable and likeable, but it had such an opposite effect for me. They don't see the weight of their actions or the fact they just killed a child's parents cause they're ghouls 🙁

The scene with Hinami's mother was so cruel, so glad the series doesn't skip over it + shows the consequences of her death. I was initially frustrated with Kaneki's inability to do anything, until remembering he's a non-combatant and is barely an adult. He was as scared as Hinami

Touka's reaction was so real, like honestly same. The mentality of the human authorities is also horrible to watch right off the bat, their utilization of dead ghouls' kagune is just cruel and dehumanizing. Ghouls and humans are the same in the end :(((

S1 EP7. It’s sad the one of the Doves died. But I like on what Kaneki, whether it’s a ghoul or a human who died, either way it is a sad ending. It goes to show in reality, whether it’s a terrorist or from a government who died, it leads to a sad and devastating ending.

Mado is such a freak and egoistic person. What a heartbreaking episode 😥. Ryoko’s sacrifice was not all expected.!! Kaneki’s helplessness really shows his character's current limits. Touka’s rage v/s the Manager’s 'lay low' logic is a great look at ghoul politics.

This episode was heartbreaking. While I am somehow more interested in seeing the suits, the damage they are doing to innocent ghouls is truly so so so sad. It really drives home the point that no one is born evil; we are all victims of our situations and how the world molds us.

Kaneki covering his eye when hiding? Heartbreaking fr. Animation on his shaky hands detailed and raw. Atmosphere anxious and isolated. Felt his struggle so personally, hit different.

Now the pressure builds. The investigators feel closer, more real, more threatening. The atmosphere gets tighter. It’s not chaos yet… but you can feel it coming 😶

This episode is a straight-up gut punch to the "Mojo." The CCG shows its true colors, and it’s not a pretty picture. Our boy witnesses a tragedy that proves being a "good guy" is a luxury he can no longer afford.

I found this episode both heartbreaking and full of conflict—seeing both sides face the same situation but handle it differently was intense. With revenge driving them, I couldn’t help but anticipate the next episode, knowing it’s going to be absolutely epic.

Things got real dark real fast. Touka ready to throw hands with the doves now. Mado is actually insane, dude collects ghoul names like trophies. Animation during the emotional scenes hit different.

new character enters and immediately owns every single scene he's in. theatrical, funny, and then suddenly NOT funny when it counts — that switch is exactly what makes him such a well written addition. the location design alone is doing villain storytelling. uncomfortable in all

This was a heavy watch. The clash of ideologies between Mado and the Fueguchis is peak TG storytelling. It forces you to question who the real monsters are. Hinami’s scream at the end? Genuinely soul-crushing voice acting. Will definitely rewatch this again. 😭

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting just past the halfway point of a twelve-episode season, 'Captivity' processes the fallout from the devastating events of episode 6, 'Cloudburst,' where personal losses reshaped the emotional landscape for the core cast. This episode functions as the pivot between the first half's world-building and the second half's escalating confrontations, channeling grief into motivation that will fuel the conflicts ahead. The decisions characters make here — particularly Touka and Hinami — establish the stakes and trajectory for the season's final act.
