Amazing episode !! The fight scenes especially, not enough glaze on that. Touka's wings are absolutely beautiful, the reveal towards the end not only felt so impactful, but landed with the visual and thematic weightt

Wow, the way they captured Tsukiyama's depravity was insane, literally. His character is by-far one of the most interesting in this series! His mentality makes me so curious about the origin of ghouls and how they came to be; or question whether cannibalism is normal between them

This series is so good at humanizing even the most unsympathetic of characters like Nishiki, who was used earlier to demonstrate the absolute carnage and bestiality that can be within ghouls during his fight with Kaneki. His arc was surprising; am glad he isn't 1 dimensional.

S1 EP5.This episode hurts so bad, for people who is struggling to continue. I hope this episode will help you chose to continue as I did. I love the character background of Nishiki and Kimi, they both belong for each other, they both feel secure with one another.

The Ghoul investigators are increasing in the 20th ward. Tsukiyama is such a freak😤. The Church scene was intense! Seeing Nishiki’s backstory actually made me feel for him. Touka stepping in to fight while being sick shows her true character. The gourmet obsessionof Tsukiyama is getting out of hand....!!!

Hide with his camera was peak bestie energy. Animation on his goofy smiles and vibes so chill. Atmosphere light and supportive. Bro was carrying the friendship arc, loved that contrast to the dark stuff.

This episode made me uncomfortable in a different way 😳 The introduction of a certain character completely shifts the vibe. The tension feels personal and unpredictable. I didn’t expect things to feel this twisted this early.

Yo, KEEP MY GIRL KIMI SAFE!!!!
Very intense vibes this episode. FIGHT SCENESSS!!!
Love seeing the world-building develop more and seeing the thin divide between the human world and the ghoul world is always so intense.
AND THE BACKSTORY!!!! SO GOOD!

The "Gourmet" date turns into a survival horror movie real quick. Our boy learns that being "exotic" in the ghoul world is just a fancy way of saying "Target #1." Touka has to step in to show why she runs the 20th Ward, revealing some "wings" that definitely aren't for show.

This episode highlights Kaneki’s pure-hearted nature—despite being hurt, his morals remain unshaken. It also shows a pivotal moment where he finally stands up for himself, defending others with courage. Meanwhile, Nishiki’s past is revealed, giving insight to his behaviour.

Finally some action! Touka vs Tsukiyama was clean. Kaneki actually standing up for himself was satisfying to watch. Nishiki's backstory came outta nowhere, but I actually felt bad for dude. The romantic tension scenes were awkward but whatever.

quiet episode that fully earns its quietness. there's one small moment in the café — just kaneki sitting, nothing dramatic happening — that broke me more than any action scene this season. the writing understood the assignment without needing to announce it loudly.

The Gourmet arc reaches a fever pitch! The battle choreo shows just how outclassed Kaneki is, but Touka’s ferocity stole the show. It’s a grim look at how ghouls can be just as predatory toward their own kind as humans are to them. It's amazing to watch! ❤️

Weird opening, doesn’t transition well from last ep so a bit confused. But overall storyline picks up well

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at the season's near-midpoint, "Scar" follows the unsettling introduction of Shuu Tsukiyama in episode 4's "Supper" and uses that new threat as a catalyst to deepen the vulnerabilities and alliances among Anteiku's ghouls. This episode functions as a critical bridge — it consolidates character dynamics and moral stakes that the first four episodes established while laying essential groundwork for the more confrontational and violent back half of the season. Without the relationship work done here, the coming conflicts would lack their emotional punch.
