The emotional gravity in this episode is off the charts. Izumi honoring his promise to Okita despite the tragedy surrounding the era gave this match so much soul. Absolute peak storytelling.
It is a flawlessly written episode following the pivotal progression of the plot. It seamlessly balances its standout moments with enthralling, brisk action scenes and overflowing emotions toward the end that deeply pierce your heart, especially as you feel the profound bond of their friendship through such deeply meaningful dialogue. And kudos as well to the series narrator, whose delivery is so immersive. Furthermore, Izumi's dialogue at the end carries immense weight in every line. Overall, it is a truly compelling episode.
It's quite an emotional episode; we see a lot of sadness, anger, and nostalgia surface, and Izumi tries to process the murder of her friend in the previous episode. So it's a slow chapter, with a lot of dialogue, flashbacks to the past of the two of them, when they met, when they became friends, and the different moments they shared. It's canon within the story and quite sad to watch.
