FROM OVERSHADOWED TO OVERPOWERED: SECOND REINCARNATION OF A TALENTLESS SAGE HAS NO VOTE THIS WEEK
Synopsis
For an entire lifetime, we're talking centuries, Ephtal tried to master magic in a fantasy world, only to die realizing he had zero talent for it. That's a rough way to go. But then he gets reincarnated again, 400 years later, with the same name and all his accumulated knowledge intact. Here's the twist: in those four centuries, magic across the world has massively declined. Spells that were considered basic in his era are now treated as lost legendary arts. So this guy who considered himself a failure suddenly walks into a magic academy and casually performs feats that nobody alive has seen before. The gap between what he knows and what everyone else knows is absurd, and watching that contrast play out is honestly the main draw. It's a redemption story wrapped in an overpowered protagonist setup: he earned his knowledge through a lifetime of grinding, even if it never paid off back then. The whole "magic has regressed" angle gives it a slightly different flavor than your standard reincarnation power fantasy. If you liked the vibe of Wise Man's Grandchild or The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat, this hits similar notes: OP protagonist in an academy setting, people constantly underestimating him, that kind of thing. Fans of Isekai Cheat Magician will find familiar territory here too, though this one leans harder into the second-chance narrative. It's a TV series from EMT Squared airing in 2026, adapted from the web manga.

That Magia Burst lore drop was like 30 seconds buried between bath scenes. You give us the reason magic is trash now and just move on? This show really does not respect its own worldbuilding
The whole academy heist with them as kids was dumb fun until Milin snapped at being called an old hag. That got me good. But the Magia Burst explanation felt like the writers checking a box and moving on. Thirty seconds for 400 years of ruined magic
The talk on the deck where Milin tells Anastasia to just trust Eftal because he's always smashed through everything got me a little teary. That bond is what makes this different from other OP protagonist shows. The rest was decent filler comedy but that scene carried it
That citrus bath scene was pure fanservice and I'm not complaining but the Magia Monolith explanation needed way more than a dinner table conversation. The worldbuilding deserves better than a text dump. Still hyped to see Eftal one-shot a god next arc
I can't be the only one tired of these 'ancient sage reborn' shows recycling the same beats. The curse arc feels like something out of Weakest Crest. The only thing saving it is Eftal genuinely caring about Anastasia instead of just flexing on everyone
Anastasia trying to be useful by cleaning the treasure vault after betraying the genie's trust was oddly sweet. This show gets more heart than I expected from a wish-fulfillment power fantasy. The chibi curse thing was dumb but the character moments land
Cat meow save was brilliant. Then Maria falling for the 'big sister' act and happily unlocking everything had me rolling. This episode dragged though. Ten episodes in and we're still doing fetch quests while the 'god fight' gets pushed to season end
The Magia Burst lore dump was like 30 seconds of exposition to explain why Eftal is the only one who can do high-tier magic. Feels lazy honestly. But the hot spring scene made up for it at least
Milin losing her temper at being called an old hag while hiding behind that vase was too funny. Her whole 'niece' act with Maria had me cracking up. Still wish we'd actually get to the Covenant Beast fight instead of more setup
The punch to the face was so satisfying! 😁
I loved seeing Anastasia find her voice and stand up to Bolteske even when he was beating her down and then Eftal coming in and catching that blade bare-handed was just incredible
Anastasia begging for help after Eftal revealed his past life as the Thunder Sage hit me so hard. Her voice actress delivered that breakdown perfectly and I felt so happy when Eftal finally leveled that entire estate.
