"I've reach this peak through hard work itself, almost on par with people who are naturally talented"

JUST KIDDING, MY HARDWORK IS ACTUALLY BECAUSE IM SPECIALLY CHOSEN WITH THE POWER TO REINCARNATE THE THE WILL TO NEVER GIVE UP IS ACTUALLY MY POWER.

What can i say. Trash power fantasy.

The way Eftal started to doubt and discredit himself was so sad and even realistic with how those kinds of circumstances could be dealt with. The voice actor did an amazing job there

Didn’t expect FLOW to do the op here, that was cool! The starting perspective is also kinda different from other anime like this, which makes this series interesting

Interesting start to the series, the narrative presents a unique take on reincarnation, tho some aspects are something we kinda already saw before elsewhere. The action scenes at the start were pretty decent too

This version of isekai can seem sloppy, but the nuance is in the fact that the hack isn't danced around. I like that Eftal's personal hurdle is confronted, so hopefully that won't be a hinderance in the future.

I was actually surprised by how much time we spent watching Eftal as an old man before he actually died, since usually these shows rush the first life in five minutes, but seeing him raise Marlin and then find out he had zero talent made the whole thing feel way heavier than I expected when he finally passed away in that bed

You would think people would be tired of the reincarnation trope by now but seeing the old man struggle so hard for basic magic makes the payoff with the kid worth it

Watching a legendary hero realize his whole life was an uphill battle against nature was actually pretty depressing and you could really feel how much it crushed his spirit

I could not get over how different his voice sounded when he met the goddess because he was just so over his previous life and ready to move on

Spending almost the entire first episode on his past life before he died was a bold choice, and now I really want to know what happened to Marlin after those four hundred years

That little kid just absolutely obliterated a whole black dragon and he did not even break a sweat while the actual knights were standing around doing nothing

I felt so bad for Eftal when he tested his hair and nothing happened because he worked for decades with zero talent and still became a sage only to die in total misery

EPISODE CONTEXT

As Episode 1, this is the series' entire foundation — there is no prior episode to reference, and everything here exists to establish Ephtal's circumstances, the state of this new world, and the dramatic gap between his sage-level abilities and what this society understands magic to be. The introduction of Ephtal and Merlin signals the central dynamic the season will build around. What this episode sets up is the long climb: a master operating in a world of beginners, and the conflict and discovery that premise promises.
