Nothing much happened but the usual, MaoMao being a detective instead of an apothecary, weird but still a cool concept. Didn’t really get to see much regarding the little brother being jealous or being punished, felt a bit rushed.

Life in the Outer Palace never seems dull for Maomao as another case comes to her hands, this type about a poisonous dinner gone wrong. But, is everything just coincidences or is there something happening behind the scenes? And who is the mysterious man interested in Maomao?

Okay that Lakan guy is veerrryyy suspicious. I feel like he's the 'Moriarty' for Maomao 🧐

A lore heavy episode that shades light to who Lakan is and who he is to Maomao. The subtle hints through the use of character reactions and dialogue was well implementd to slowly build up tension and lore while leaving questions for viewers to engage and ponder.

The mystery feels sharper again here, and it’s fun to follow Maomao’s thinking. Jinshi’s reactions make things even more enjoyable. It’s one of those episodes that keeps your attention the whole time.

This episode felt like a bit of a slog to me. However, we do get more of Maomao figuring everything out like the boss she is. Her and Jinshi's interactions are getting funnier. However, there was not enough of that to save this episode's pacing. Definitely not my favorite.

This episode leans more into atmosphere, and I actually really enjoy that shift. There’s a sense of unease that lingers quietly throughout, and it never feels forced. Maomao’s role here feels more observant than active, which is a nice change of pace. The standout moment for me is when she chooses to stay silent and simply watch how things unfold—it says a lot about her character. Not every situation needs immediate action, and she understands that. It makes the episode feel more grounded and thoughtful.

Our Detective Maomao is on fire again. Solving not just one or two but three cases. I like how Master Gaoshun knows how to cater to Maomao's interest it's cute. Master Jinshi your turn to get busy with cases. And why is that sneaky guy poking around our ML and FL?

pufferfish mystery is clever but gets solved a bit too fast. the real highlight is Lakan finally stepping into the light and he is immediately unsettling af. the way he pieces together who Maomao is without saying much says everything. Jinshi is on edge and honestly same

The analytical gold here is the red herring. Everyone assumes about the pufferfish toxins, but Maomao deduces it’s actually something else! . It’s a brilliant look at how local "common sense" can be deadly. Plus, Lakan’s obsession with her is getting creepy 😐.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at the midpoint of the second cour, Episode 15 steps back from the palace political machinations that intensified around 'The New Pure Consort' and delivers a standalone case that reinforces Maomao's value as a problem-solver beyond the inner court. This breather episode functions as a recalibration, grounding the series in its mystery-of-the-week roots before the back half of the season escalates the broader narrative. It also continues to expand Maomao's sphere of influence, setting up later episodes where her reputation and investigative reach grow increasingly consequential.
