Not a lot happening this episode, she got fired and the lot kinda drag itself with the relationship between MaoMao and Jinshi. Not the best but still kinda fun? I guess?

7.8/10

Figuring out Fengming schemes and solving the mystery of the poisoning attempt on Lady Lishu brings out unforeseen consequences. Consequences those that affects Maomao and puts her life in the Rear Palace in risk. With a now uncertain future in front of her, what will Maomao do?

I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest shipper of Maomao and Jinshi. Their romance kinda feels weird for me. But I feel like this episode is actually going forward to that route, so we'll see, I guess.

A must watch banger episode that makes you want to play it in repeat. The short dissmissal of Maomao was maximized perfectly by using Jinshi's change in behavior. Their coincidental reunion and interactions, with complimentary background music and supporting casts, gave smiles.

The BGM fits perfectly while the female lead reflects on the past events. The pace of the story slows down a bit, which is okay it balances out the chaotic events from the previous episode. So I’m expecting something interesting in the next episode.

This episode ties a few things together nicely without rushing. Maomao stays consistent, which makes everything believable. It’s satisfying but still leaves you wanting more.

While a bit slow-paced, it was very interesting to see Maomao going through an internal struggle about her future. The scene with Jinshi was a bit scandalous and fun to watch, and I'm looking forward to more of their dynamic. Every scene builds the characters and setting more.

Mid-season and it still feels fresh, which is honestly impressive. I really love how consistent the quality has been so far. Maomao’s personality continues to be the highlight for me. She’s just so fun to watch, even when she’s doing something simple. This kind of consistency is rare. Jinshi has to be patient with Maomao's dense feeling.

Thought our FL and ML will be separated for long. Master Jinshi sulking is so cute. Haha
Maomao as a courtesan is so very pretty despite not having those big assets. What made me so very thrilled is when Master Jinshi made that move. hahahah

Maomao gets fired because of palace politics and tbh my girl really can't catch a break. ends up back at the brothel and somehow Jinshi finds his way there too. that man really said no chill. the ending is kinda sweet and kinda suspicious at the same time 😭

Maomao was dismissed from the rear palace. The mutual miscommunication between Jinshi and Maomao about her leaving proves they’re both brilliant but socially chaotic. Seeing her pivot back to a part-time courtesan role highlights her insane adaptability. The cinematography when she bumps into a Jinshi at the banquet was soo good. 10/10 for the "buyout" ending! 😂. Loved their dance.!

Man, seeing Maomao finally solve the riddle was so satisfying! The way she used her big brain to reveal the hidden message... her brain is just on another level. Jinshi looking all soft while watching her work was the best part! man literaly mind blowing

Worth Watching. Masterclass in contrast. Pivots from lush palace golds to gritty blues. 8.5/10.
Unnoticed Detail: Maomao’s hands. Animators consistently render her scars/bandages even in pretty scenes—a silent nod to lore.
Signal: Visual consistency > Dialogue.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at the exact halfway mark of the 24-episode season, this episode serves as a crucial pivot following the intense fallout from Fengming's execution in episode 11. It functions as a transitional piece, processing the emotional and political aftermath while deepening the Maomao-Jinshi dynamic that will drive the back half of the season. The groundwork laid here in character motivation and relationship complexity is essential setup for the escalating stakes ahead.
