Urgency returns with a more active case. The testing vial scene provides a strong visual anchor, and the pacing increases without losing clarity in Maomao’s reasoning.

We’re back to a calmer phase, but it’s definitely not boring. Every scene makes you think what it means and what’s hidden beneath it. And once again, I’m blown away by how smart and observant the female lead is.

For a nice change of pace, let's learn something about heredity! Personally, I find this episode intriguing but fitting, as it involves the royal family and their significance to the setting as a whole. It was very clever, an awesome display of our heroine's wit and intellect.

Love how they slightly turned focus to Jinshi here. Which has a very important and crucial role for the series. Majority of this episode is both Maomao and Jinshi which made the episode have a lot of sense.

This episode feels important! Maomao and Jinshi have great moments again. The setting is unique and kinda cool. Makes you think a lot after watching. Love the chem between The Emperor and Jinshi 😄

The shrine got me thinking too as they go along with their door hunt. Haha
Maomao's explanation is clear and understandable. But somehow it got me thinking if she has some royal bloodline. Jinshi's reaction to the Emperor's joke was cute and funny, Hehe

Watching Loumen wake up in a cold sweat over those fragmented memories felt so heavy and it makes you wonder how much he is still hiding from Maomao

Using an aphrodisiac to cause hair loss is such a devious move and the way Maomao just figured it out from the oil scent is why she is so reliable

Those ghouls in the dream sequence were actually terrifying and it really shows how messed up Loumen's past was with all the secrets about his real father and brother

Lihua in the bath was so sad but hearing her finally thank Maomao felt like a huge step in her recovery after that horrible merchant poisoned her

The Emperor playing wingman for Jinshi at the shrine had me laughing and he clearly wants those two together as much as I do

I was so impressed by how Maomao figured out that color shrine; her scientific explanation for it totally clicked for me. And honestly, it really felt like the Emperor's pushing for her and Jinshi after seeing her shine like that, which just makes me wonder how far he's going to meddle.

I can't believe how deep this political rabbit hole is going now that we know about the secret bloodline and those special eyes needed for the shrine. It makes me genuinely nervous wondering who's truly aware of the succession games, and honestly, it just feels like everyone's a pawn in some bigger scheme.

I almost snorted when the Emperor made that incredibly inappropriate comment about Maomao's chest, and her just deadpanning right through it was so perfectly *her*. Honestly, Jinshi looking like he was about to spontaneously combust from sheer embarrassment made me feel a little bad for him, even if it was absolutely hilarious.

Loumen's past, with all those masked figures flashing by, really left me with a heavy feeling in my gut. I can't shake the thought of just how many people had to suffer in the shadows to bury those imperial secrets, and it makes me question everything about the palace's history.

I was genuinely surprised by how quickly they wrapped up Consort Lihua's hair loss mystery, but then finding out that merchant used an aphrodisiac for some political scheme really makes me wonder how deep these conspiracies run in the palace.

Wow, I'm still reeling from the reveal that Jinshi is actually the Emperor's brother, it totally reframes their whole dynamic for me and makes so much sense about their somewhat awkward relationship. I loved watching Maomao methodically unravel the shrine mystery, she's just so brilliant and always a step ahead of everyone, and that 15cm comment from the Emperor absolutely caught me off guard – what a line!

I was genuinely surprised how the lore about the Divine Woman and those dark-seeing eyes completely tied into the secret doors; it really makes me wonder what other ancient secrets the royal family has been keeping under wraps. It adds such a fascinating, almost unsettling, layer to their history that I didn't see coming.

Seriously, I couldn't believe the Emperor was pulling out all the stops to play matchmaker at the shrine; my guy is really trying! And of course, Maomao just completely ghosted all the obvious romantic tension like it was a minor inconvenience, which, honestly, is exactly what I'd expect from her.

I was genuinely surprised to learn Jinshi is actually the Emperor's brother and not his son, wow. It really makes me see his reserved demeanor and constant effort to prove himself in a new, tragic light, especially with that whole complicated baby swap backstory.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Positioned just past the quarter mark of a 24-episode season, Episode 7 follows 'The Crystal Pavilion, For the Third Time,' which leaned into Maomao's medical skill set, and pivots toward the political and ancestral underpinnings of the imperial court. It serves as a bridge episode, transitioning from personal introspection into the broader power structures explored in the upcoming 'The Empress Dowager.' This is where Season 2 begins seeding the larger dynastic tensions that will likely define its back half.
