Episode Context

Positioned just past the quarter mark of a 24-episode season, Episode 7 follows 'The Crystal Pavilion, For the Third Time,' which leaned into Maomao's medical skill set, and pivots toward the political and ancestral underpinnings of the imperial court. It serves as a bridge episode, transitioning from personal introspection into the broader power structures explored in the upcoming 'The Empress Dowager.' This is where Season 2 begins seeding the larger dynastic tensions that will likely define its back half.
