Episode Context

As the second episode of twenty-four, 'Caravan' builds on the season premiere's reestablishment of Maomao's role by introducing external threats to the palace's carefully controlled environment. It functions as a critical setup piece, seeding mysteries and complications that will escalate directly into episode three, 'Corpse Fungus,' where Maomao's investigative abilities face a more urgent test. This early stretch of the season is clearly laying groundwork, using outside influences to destabilize the status quo and give Maomao new problems only she can solve.
