A slower investigative episode that focuses on details like tampered containers. While pacing is more relaxed, the careful progression keeps it engaging.

Had a great balance of pacing for the show, gives us a little view into maomaos ralationships but without forgeting about the hygh stakes of the story. Definetly a feel good one.

The episode had a mix of relaxed and tense vibes—relaxed during the dessert-making and funny scenes, but tense scenes afterward. I feel like there’s a bigger secret waiting to be revealed in future episodes.

As they say, "out of the frying pan, into the fire." Trouble doesn't seem to shy away from the main characters, and it gets increasingly complicated everytime. Luckily, they usually have the solution at hand, but most likely it would come from some unconventional source.

Again, Mid pacing, though this is thrilling and at the same time chaotic! It feels funny when Maomao is being toyed by Jinshi. The connection is wild!

This one is fun and a bit chaotic. Maomao and Xiaolan are so wholesome here 😂 Jinshi adds some funny tension too. Easy to watch but still engaging!

The ice cream treat was mouth watery. I should try making some. Our Maomao is such a kind hearted girl despite having a difficulty understanding others emotions. I'm so very happy she was able to bring back his foster dad to the palace. The ending is giving me an unsettling vibe.

Making ice from saltpeter to save Xiaolan was so smart and it was great seeing a disaster turn into a treat for the consort and Xiaolan looked so happy in the end

That warehouse mystery got dark fast once Maomao realized the fire was actually a dust explosion from the flour and it was all just a big cover up for some missing grain

You can really tell Maomao cares about her friends when she goes through all that trouble to make a frozen treat just to get Xiaolan out of trouble and that whole scene was adorable

The way Maomao explained the dust explosion with just a candle and some flour was so cool and Jinshi jumping back in shock made the whole demonstration even better

I actually got a bit nervous for the warehouse guy, but it turns out he was just eating way too much seaweed and tonic because someone wanted him to be a lethargic mess.

Hearing that ice crack and watching the fruit juice freeze so perfectly made me utterly fascinated by Maomao's intense focus. I often forget how intricate even the most basic preparations can be until I see her execute them, and my respect for her meticulousness just keeps growing.

I really got a kick out of watching Maomao put that loudmouth eunuch in his place about the ice; she's just so sharp, and her scientific explanations always feel like a mic drop moment. Honestly, the saltpeter cooling explanation caught me off guard with how cool it actually was, and it was pretty wild how quickly we went from making ice cream to a dusty, suspicious warehouse investigation. That dust explosion demo, though, just sealed my admiration for her, proving she's not just smart but genuinely dangerous with her knowledge.

When Lakan was just calmly playing shogi by himself, talking about Maomao, it sent a shiver down my spine; I can't shake the feeling that he’s always two steps ahead, meticulously planning something truly unsettling for her. What exactly does he see in her that makes him so unnervingly focused?

Seeing Maomao share that frozen fruit treat she made with saltpeter with Xiaolan at the end was so sweet, it really showed me how much she cares even if she tries to act all aloof sometimes.

I was genuinely shocked that the official ended up getting iodine poisoning from his own medicine; that twist totally threw me off, but it made so much sense for why he was too out of it to even notice the flour dust on the ground. I really didn't expect that kind of self-inflicted harm to be the key.

I can't believe Maomao's immediate thought after solving that whole industrial disaster and medical mystery was just her high-quality minced meat. Honestly, it's so classic Maomao, she just switches off detective mode and goes right back to her foodie priorities, which totally cracks me up.

I totally cracked up when Maomao's flour explosion made Jinshi jump; he’s usually so composed, so it was hilarious to see him flustered for once. But then Lakan showed up at the end, and honestly, I just got this really bad feeling, like he’s definitely going to stir up some serious trouble for Maomao again, which is super unsettling.

I seriously jumped when that warehouse went up in flames from just flour and a pipe, like, who even thinks about that kind of thing? It just goes to show how Maomao is always two steps ahead of everyone else in that palace; I swear she's the only one actually observing anything.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at the midpoint of Season 2's 24-episode run, 'Ice' arrives as a palate cleanser after the eerie tension of 'The Dancing Ghost' arc. It functions as a deliberate narrative exhale, spotlighting Maomao's ingenuity and interpersonal bonds in a lower-stakes setting. This calm is strategic — the following episode, 'Festering Resentment,' signals a sharp pivot into deeper palace conspiracies and more personal stakes for Maomao.
