UP: The crew bonding before the mission is nice. You actually start liking these people. DOWN: The cockroaches attack EARLY and it's BRUTAL. Heads ripped off, bodies torn apart. You KNOW it's bad even with censorship. 🚀

IT ESCALATED SO QUICKLY OMG??? never expected it would turned out to be that brutal after the first-relaxing-episode before, the journey to mars isn't really going so smooth after all... now this is where the graphic take a big part of the anime, it BURNS on the DARK 🔥

The episode spends time introducing the new crew and their abilities but the tension never disappears because everyone knows the last mission ended horribly.

Where to begin. Well, first we start out with our colorful cast of misfits on their voyage to Mars with a decent amount of character development though one of them seems bereft of character development, and or personality maybe make that two. Hijinks ensue on this month long expedition as bonds are formed, love is in the air, and apparently so is being brutally murdered by a bunch a stowaways. 39 days in space, huh, I guess leave the rom com at home wasn’t a suggestion. Not surprising from the first episode, it seemed too peaceful, yet not expecting that level of violence. This foreshadows that the series will get more intense as it progresses. Not a fan of ultra violence, but I am a fan of the build up it truly paid off.

Gore intense and very foreboding. We get a little more attached to certain characters as we get a better idea of their personality. The general feeling was slightly hopeful for a successful mission, but by the end we learn that this mission will not be anything close to easy.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Following Episode 1's introduction of the A.E. Virus threat and Akari's recruitment, this episode serves as the critical transition from Earth to the mission itself, fleshing out the crew's motivations and interpersonal dynamics before Mars changes everything. It's the last breath of relative safety before Episode 3 drops the team into the brutal reality of what awaits them on the planet's surface. At episode 2 of 13, this is textbook setup — investing in the characters so the horror that follows actually lands.
