This episode brilliantly transitions the series from a story of desperate preparation into a high-stakes military thriller. The tension is insane as the newly christened Yamato attempts to clear Earth's atmosphere while facing a relentless assault from the Gamilas planetary defense forces. The tactical back-and-forth between Captain Okita's command bridge and the enemy highlights the strategic depth that sets this classic space opera apart.

The background characters look a bit wonky and lazily drawn. It's still a little slow, but the hype is definitely starting to build.

Yamato's launch is awesome. The entire sequence feels surprisingly realistic. It's exciting to finally see Yamato set off on its journey. That said, I'm not really a fan of Kodai's beef with Okita. They're in the middle of a war, and casualties are inevitable, so his resentment feels a bit hard for me to swallow.
