Star Blazers: The Quest for Iscandar Episode 24: Death Struggle! God, Weep for the Gamilons!

The enemy's defeat feels pretty anticlimactic. I wish it had taken more than a single episode to resolve. Even though we see more of the Gamilas throughout the series, they still come across as fairly one-dimensional. That said, the depiction of the planet Gamilas is beautiful, and the torpedo sequence is visually impressive, although it goes on a bit longer than necessary. The destruction itself, however, is highly symbolic, and emotional.

The visual direction achieves an almost operatic scale here, beautifully contrasting the fiery destruction of a falling empire with the desperate, white-knuckled defense of the Star Force crew on the bridge.

So much for the home advantage. I expected more of a fight from an entire planet, but it was still pretty close, I guess. It felt a bit anticlimactic since everything was wrapped up in a single episode.
