SSSS.Gridman
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Yuuta Hibiki wakes up in the room of Rikka Takarada and notices two things: he has no memories, and he can hear a mysterious voice calling his name from a nearby room. On further inspection, he finds a robot—which introduces itself as Hyper Agent Gridman—behind the screen of an old computer. Much to Yuuta's surprise, Rikka cannot hear Gridman, nor can she see the ominous monsters looming over a thick fog as it envelopes the town outside. Another giant monster materializes in the city and proceeds to wreak havoc. Amidst the confusion, Yuuta is once again drawn to the old computer and merges with Gridman. Suddenly, he appears in the middle of the battle and is forced to fight the monster. Together with Rikka and fellow classmate Shou Utsumi, Yuuta forms the "Gridman Alliance" to defeat the monsters plaguing the city and find whoever is responsible for their emergence.

The story centers around a typical high school boy who suffers from amnesia under mysterious circumstances. Its animation is lovely, and the atmosphere it presents is both awe inspiring, and with a little existential dread mixed into the world. The music is great, and uplifting at high octane moments. We’ll most likely have to wait for any meaningful character development however.
What an amazing ride! Studio Trigger was able to cut loose and do what they do best! A true visual experience This one is, and it’s not even a movie! The world was protected by the Gridman Alliance! Gridman looked quite like Ultraman in his final form, I liked the references in this show, pure hype, but not only that, it had a great story you can invest in and it paid off in spades! Great show recommend a second viewing! Grid Beam fire!!!
Wow, Yuta’s condition is basically an allegory for the trinity. Yuta, Gridman, and the old computer all linked together forming a singular entity yet separate, with their own personalities. Akane has gone off to the deep end, hope she makes it back to the people who care about her. I feel for Utsumi he represents the every man struggling to grasp things far beyond his comprehension, yet despite all that still carries on. Gridknight, Gridman finally tag team in this slogfest of a Kaiju death battle, from rivals to to comrades, this episode had everything, and more!
This episode showed the character progression of Anti, I knew he’d develop into a character eventually! The team experiences down time for awhile, until the next Kaiju appears. We find that not anyone can get into Akane’s house. We also find out about the birth of Kaiju, and how they come into being.
This episode felt like it came out of left field. Very jarring with how everything ended last episode. Thought it would pick up from where we left off. By no means was it a bad episode, I truly feel for Akane, she is such a sympathetic villain I find myself rooting for her happy ending. I don’t mind how Akane is portrayed, just wouldn’t mind if she went the villainess route, her physical abilities are something else. The premise was well executed, the Kaiju was quite unique. Great episode, just felt out of place.
Yuta don’t believe in me, believe in the you that I believe in! It’s all in the open now, Akane declares war against Gridman. The group must act fast to curtail the forces of evil. The fight scene was reminiscent of power rangers, the combination was definitely “inspired” by that franchise! lol It was great, along with the character dynamics going on in the background.
The mysterious figure finally reveals himself. He goes by the name Alexis Kerib, a courteous fellow, with a penchant for being humorous during serious moments, just don’t let him fool you. The animation team behind this is Studio Trigger, my suspicions were confirmed when that brutal scene took place, it had all their signature elements in that monumental scene.
We see the soft side of Rikka in this episode helping out our resident Kaiju boy, as if he were a stray. We have Lore revealed to us by a cute yet smelly vagabond Kaiju girl. The mysterious dark figure is moving in the shadows showing independent action apart from Akane, the gears are turning. Hope our Gridman Alliance is ready for what’s to come.
My drill is the drill that’ll pierce the heavens!!! They had action, suspense, references galore, homages, and they even had cake. The Kaiju boy is an interesting deuteragonist at least till he opens his mouth. I hope he experiences character development soon. Overall a top ten episode quite a hilarious one too!
This episode took the series up a notch. From here on out I will be expecting even more fantastical Kaiju battles! We learn more about the inexplicable link between the Gridman alliance, along with its strengths, and weaknesses. The animation is still solid, and the art style is lovely, especially the bright sunny days we get to see in some episodes, it’s a visual treat.
Great episode with excellent visuals. The episode introduces a quite eccentric character that I hope gets to do more in future episodes or that he shows more often. Despite his very strange personality, he fits in with the rest of the cast.
This is a stellar episode, they increased the size of the main cast without getting lost in the sauce, and produced an organization primarily focused on helping Gridman. The battles are cool, the use of different colors for each of their beams was a nice touch to tell them apart. The action is well balanced with the daily lives of our protagonists. The swelling music is always a nice complement to the visuals.
Solid episode that serves as a solid introduction for what is to come. The episode introduces the main characters flawlessly, although not going in depth. What is Gridman exactly remains as a mystery, together with what is his relationship with Yuta
The mystery has been revealed, and with that a new mystery has arisen. Will Yuta and Gridman uncover the identity of the mysterious figure on the screen before another catastrophe emerges!?! Once again the action sequence never fails to live up to its hype!
Actually a lifechanging episode. we have to remember that Gridman is a character from a 1993 tokusatsu show, and this episode pays homage to everything that tokusatsu is about, specially about the hope-filled messages that it conveys. "You're all... not alone" is the core message of Gridman and something we must carry within ourselves.
Solid episode that continues flawlessly from the previous cliffhanger. The city not resetting after the previous episode shows that the situation now is dire. The relationship between the Neon Genesis' students and Rikka's mom is nice to see, they have been hanging out in her shop for a while after all.
The first half of the episode feels like the previous ones, with themes and such, it picks up and get interesting after the kaiju appears. Seeing Anti reflect upon his raison d'etre and thus changing what he is was an interesting development. It is akin to when one of the antagonists joins the Sentai team halfway through the season. The episode also has an amazing cliffhanger for the remaining ones.
The episode feels like filler, which is weird for a 12 episode original anime to have, what they wanted to do is interesting and so is the kaiju's ability, but they failed the execution of the idea. Seeing that the Neon Genesis students can combine with each other (without needing Gridman) is also something nice to see, not everything must be solved by the protagonist after all.
This counts as the mandatory school festival episode, right? Seeing Akane straight up declaring her intentions was surprising, since she did it so smoothly with no dramatic music or anything like that. Full Powe Gridman was also a visual spectacle, this is what tokusatsu is about, getting a final form two thirds into the series and that will be absolutely overpowered during its first appearances.
"An answer so stupid that there is no way that it's right" is what happened when Yuta mentioned his discoveries from last time. Following the vibes of the last episode, this one also gives more answers to our characters. It was nice seeing Vit finally doing something during a fight too, he had just been standing there for a while so it was already time for him to shine.
