Episode 1 of The World's Strongest Rearguard is a generic isekai premiere that does nothing to stand out from the crowd. The animation is weak, the writing is shallow, and the protagonist is forgettable. The "entire company gets reincarnated" angle could have been interesting, but the show doesn't use it for anything. The slavery element is uncomfortable and unexamined . If you're a diehard isekai fan who just wants more of the same, this might fill a void. If you're tired of the genre, this won't change your mind.

Episode Context

A measured, contemplative premiere that prioritizes atmosphere and grounding over immediate action. Arihito Atobe's sudden transition from exhausted corporate worker to inhabitant of an unfamiliar labyrinthine world carries genuine weight, and the episode leans into that disorientation deliberately. The pacing is patient, expect world-building and character framing rather than combat set pieces. The dynamic between Arihito and his former boss Kyouka is established early, adding a layer of familiar tension to an otherwise alien setting. Themes of second chances, identity, and purpose run quietly beneath the surface. Fans of isekai premieres that take time to establish emotional stakes before escalating will find this a solid entry point. Those craving immediate spectacle may need to adjust expectations.
