A lot of funny interactions especially with the MMO-themed episode, I bet a lot of people can relate to Sasami in some way. I also love how most of the angle shots were taken from a single fixed angle, with little to no camera movement. SHAFT never disappoints when it comes to this kind of visual direction.
ok NOW watch it, this is where it clicks. tonal whiplash in the best way, goes from chill slice of life to full chaos out of nowhere. genuinely funny if you're into absurdist stuff. animation still gorgeous. this is the "ok I'm hooked" episode for me.
The MMO parody somehow becomes an emotional look into Sasami's past without feeling completely out of place. The show keeps weaponizing absurd comedy to sneak in character development, and honestly it works way better than I expected.
