Sailor Zombie
Oshimeter
Synopsis
After surviving two months of a zombie apocalypse, Maiko Inui transfers to a new high school with one dream: becoming an idol. Which is, honestly, a wild priority when the undead are roaming around outside. But that's kind of the charm here. Maiko and her new friends Momoka and Mutsumi try to hold onto something resembling normal teenage life — school routines, growing friendships, small dramas — while the world outside has completely fallen apart. Then things get interesting: they discover that certain music can stop zombies mid-attack, making them dance instead of devour. For a girl who wants to be an idol, that's a pretty convenient apocalypse mechanic. Sailor Zombie is a seinen drama-horror mix adapted from mixed media, and it leans into the contrast between its cute sailor-suited schoolgirls and the genuinely dark situation they're stuck in. The tone is more melancholic than campy — friendships feel earned, and the horror isn't played for laughs. If you liked School-Live! for the way it hid despair under a slice-of-life surface, or Sankarea: Undying Love for mixing emotional weight with zombie premises, this hits a similar nerve. There's also a faint echo of Is This a Zombie? in the absurdity of the concept, though Sailor Zombie plays things much straighter. It's a quiet, weird little show about holding onto hope when everything around you has already collapsed.
