I get the grim tone they're going for and Zettour's marketplace walk did land for me but a whole episode of men in rooms discussing troop numbers is a lot of talking and not much Tanya

I couldn't stop thinking about that nutcracker doll showing up twice. Once for Tanya and once in Zettour's window as he watches people who have no clue. My gut just sank at the second one

Lergen on the train staring out at the peaceful countryside and asking how it came to this broke me a little. He carried that whole failed mission in his shoulders the entire ride

So we're just getting a Subaru library tease with zero warning at the end. Is this a crossover or did the episode cut to a whole different show. Confused but curious

Sundress Tanya was not on my bingo card this season. Seeing the Devil of the Rhine rocking a straw hat and eating fish like a normal kid for five minutes was somehow both hilarious and creepy as hell

People complained this episode glossed over the LN politics but I actually think the slower pace is what makes the finale work. Tanya banging her head against that stone wall was the most real she's ever been. She's so close to cracking and they're setting that up carefully

The Visha drinking scene sent me. She outdrank every single man in the battalion with that serene smile and then helped them lean on pillars outside. Commander energy

I almost forgot this show could be genuinely peaceful for a stretch. The train ride back with Visha showing off souvenirs while the countryside rolled past gave me a false sense of safety and the naval strike yanked it away

Ildoa being WWI Italy is so obvious once you see it. Armed neutrality meanwhile the Empire tries to wine and dine them into an alliance while a naval threat builds offshore. The geopolitical stuff is the real meat here

I could watch Tanya eat that gourmet fish for a whole episode honestly. The way she snapped back to military composure after that daydream hit way too close to home

That naval bombardment ending caught me off guard. For an episode that felt like a breather tour episode the last scene flipped everything

Rudersdorf getting drunk and pounding the table about the politicians while Tanya sips tea and nods politely is the funniest dynamic they've ever put on screen. She's just trying to survive the conversation

Sundress Tanya with that innocent smile while internally scheming about diplomatic traps is the most unsettling thing this show has ever done and I love it

Zettour's face when Ildoa announced neutrality said everything. They committed troops to a withdrawal relying on roads that just got cut off. The world-building here is so grim because it's accurate to how actual alliances crumbled in WW2

The chibi segment saved this episode for me honestly. Tanya trying to climb that lookout ladder because she's too short while Visha and Weiss just watch her struggle. This show knows exactly when to puncture its own grim tone

Major Helmu is instantly my favorite new character. That flamboyant professionalism bouncing off Tanya's deadpan misery was too good. Also that final homeland message at the end has me nervous for what's coming next

Feels rushed compared to the novels. The breakout in the book had way more tactical layers and little fights that made the win feel earned. Here it's just torpedoes go boom and the fleet sinks in like a minute. The animation was still gorgeous though

The Providence speech hit me hard. Tanya straight up telling Being X that their escape came from strategy and math not divine intervention. That's the Tanya I missed from earlier this season. Pure spite fuel
