Episode Context

Sitting at roughly the midpoint of the series, this episode marks the transition from Kenshin's intensive training under Hiko Seijuro to the full-scale conflict with Shishio Makoto's forces. The previous episode concluded Kenshin's acquisition of the ultimate technique, and now the narrative shifts to the antagonist's camp as the Juppongatana complete their assembly. This gathering directly sets the stage for the Kyoto Inferno, Shishio's master plan, making this a crucial bridge episode between preparation and all-out war.
