Rurouni Kenshin
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Once the most feared assassin in Japan, Himura Kenshin was the kind of guy whose name alone ended fights before they started. Now he's a soft-spoken wanderer with a reverse-blade sword and a vow never to kill again. That gap between who he was and who he's trying to be is basically the entire engine of this show. This 2023 remake covers the classic manga from the ground up: Kenshin drifts into Tokyo during the early Meiji era and crosses paths with Kaoru Kamiya, a dojo owner dealing with some fraud using his old reputation to terrorize the city. He steps in, things escalate, and before long he's got a found family forming around him, Sanosuke the street fighter, Yahiko the stubborn kid learning the sword, Megumi the doctor carrying her own baggage. The 24-episode TV series takes its time letting these relationships breathe between the sword fights. LIDENFILMS gave this a genuinely gorgeous visual treatment. The action choreography hits hard, but what sticks is the quieter stuff: Kenshin sitting with his guilt, the weight of choosing mercy when violence would be easier. The soundtrack weaves traditional Japanese instrumentation into the score in a way that feels earned, not decorative. If you liked Samurai Champloo's style or Blade of the Immortal's moral gray areas, this sits in similar territory but with a warmer heart. Fans of Peacemaker Kurogane's historical setting will feel right at home too. It's a thoughtful samurai story that doesn't rush past the human stuff to get to the next fight.

This one can't help but compare this episode with the 1996 one. Anyone whose seen both fights from this episode and the 1996 can tell that everything (colour, lighting, pacing, music cinematography) is way better in the 1996 one. For a penultimate episode of the season which includes one of Kenshin's most important battle, it doesn't feel like they've put a lot of budget in it.
absolutely unskippableeeee!!! it as a crucial turning point that connects directly into the new main storyline
major leap forward in main storyline, don't miss any important developments and details in this episode!!!!
finally reveals the beginning of Kenshin's main storyline 🙌 👏
unexpected character twist and is also bring some subtle details
the start of a new story, but a lot of senses in the middle feel unrelated with main plot
this episode more focuses on side character monologues, doesn't contribute much to the main plot
not the part of the main plot, but this side story quite engaging and make viewers understand of this character
the main characters group resolving conflict through reason rather than force, although the new character doesn't join the team, but they still gain a new friend
new character, new setting, also a new storyline, looks like the main character team meet their new family members hahaha
villain's personality adds much-needed color to the episode that have been a dull story introduction
I thought this episode is just a side story that showing the group's growth, but actually is a start of a new storyline
actually I'm not a big fan of impulsive character like sagara sanosuke, but this episode changed my mind, because the impulsive people can be the must loyal and heartfelt !!
