Me encanta los sencillo y "tonto" que es Himura, pero una vez que decide pelear su aura cambia inmediatamente y se pone totalmente serio. El detalle de la espada le da un plus a sus nuevos objetivos

i've never seen the original so im going in on this blind! kenshin himura already has me HOOKED in this first episode alone because of his swordsmanship and also the way he talks? like he's echoing back LMAO what was that about? also this was lore heavy so i had to pay attention

Had to dropped this at the start since I've followed Rurouni Kenshin - the classic animation. And comparing this modern animation to the classic one, I preferred the original. The style is different in the classic one.

begins in the 11th year of the Meiji era, introducing Himura Kenshin, a wandering samurai with a cheerful, humble demeanor and a cross-shaped scar on his left cheek. He carries a sakabato (reverse-blade sword), representing his vow never to kill again

This earns me 8/10. A strong character-driven debut introducing Kenshin’s pacifist vow against his violent past. Light humor balances samurai drama, and the Meiji-era backdrop adds texture into it. Simple but effective setup with clear moral stakes and charm. Fear the blade!

I will always be a fan of these series and episode one presents the introduction of the lead characters and a challenge that must be overcome. In time the get to know each other and it leaves you wanting more for the next episode. A intense build up for the next episode.

As a long time fan of the series, this rework being true to the source was actually fun.

Following Kenshin's attempt to atone for life, it helps that some people can have a figure to look up to on how to follow up on one's resolve.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the series premiere of a 24-episode season, this episode exists purely to lay groundwork — introducing Kenshin, Kaoru, and the thematic pillars of redemption and societal transformation that will drive every arc to come. There's no preceding episode to build from, so the focus is entirely on first impressions and establishing tone. Episode 2, 'Tokyo Samurai - Yahiko Myojin,' immediately begins expanding the core cast and deepening the Meiji-era dynamics introduced here.
