Synopsis
In a genre where the standard reboot comes with a sword, a skill menu, or at least a functioning body, this guy wakes up as an egg. Not a dragon, but a dragon's egg. No arms, no legs, no magic, just a shell and a forest full of things that would love to eat him for breakfast. That's the starting point of Tensei shitara Dragon no Tamago datta, a 12-episode TV series airing in 2026 from Felix Film and Ga-Crew. The protagonist, eventually named Illusia, has to figure out how to survive with basically nothing, guided only by a mysterious "Voice of God" that feeds him information about the world. The appeal here is the evolution system: Illusia doesn't just level up, he literally hatches and transforms, growing from something completely helpless into what could become a genuinely terrifying creature. Each stage of growth feels earned because the early episodes really sell how vulnerable he is. If you liked the grind-from-zero energy of So I'm a Spider, So What? or the monster-evolution loop in Re:Monster, this hits a similar nerve. There's also a That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime vibe in how it balances a non-human protagonist with gradually expanding world-building. The tone is more tense than comedic, though; the forest is hostile, resources are scarce, and nothing is handed to Illusia. It's a survival story first, power fantasy second, and that balance keeps it grounded.

The stakes for options really stir things up! Seeing the MC forced to face a literal wall of power while juggling his own fear and his desire to save his first human friend made for a surprisingly emotional ride. PLUS more evolution lines! What type of dragon is going to be?
I was enjoying the buildup a lot. Then it just… stopped. Not even a gentle stop, more like a sudden cut. It works if there is a continuation, otherwise it feels oddly unfinished.
The combat mechanics and progression system remain engaging, especially with the added layer introduced in this episode. The ending, however, feels abrupt and unresolved, leaving the narrative in an incomplete state.

Illusia’s AP was decent vs the Rock Dragon but that slime was just mid-tier Hax, still took a high diff before he got yeeted to the desert. Not universal tier yet, but the grind continues 🤷♂️.
Dragon slapped the evil slime, then boom, desert. ending felt kinda meh, and too many recaps, but def convenient for microwaved dinner 🤷♂️
That ending punch was the only thing that wasn't mid. Don't call it peak, that's just copium.
OMG i paused at 2:00:00 looking for an end credit scene or ANYTHING to wrap things up and saw... NOTHING!! talk about a hidden detail more like a hidden ending 😤 this was such an eww episode
That initial golden forest hue was gorgeous ✨, then the blues and purples came in strong, but the actual monster designs were giving basic fantasy, kinda mid 🤷♀️.
Episode complete, main quest just hit 'neutral' status; MC needs a tactical strategy guide upgrade for more efficient XP farming, this was just mid-tier stat gain. 🤷♀️
Another episode with that bland digital coloring, endless recaps, and more Isekai nonsense; felt pretty mid, we used to have real storytelling like in Cowboy Bebop.
This season finale was so mid, literally just the localizers pushing their agenda and probably rewrote half the dialogue for Crunchyroll 🙄, changing nuanced Japanese culture to woke English slang again. #BoycottFunimation

This ep's 3D combat was Project Diva-level epic, but honestly, Dragon's skill usage was a bit like a producer holding back Miku's full Append power 😩 so like, mid.
Such an abrupt ending, no lore resolution, just *poof* it's over? This generic isekai just *had* to waste screentime on pointless recaps instead of actual world-building. Eww. 👎
