VerifiedThat flashback with Theresia was brutal. It felt more bittersweet than satisfying when WIlhelm defeated it though, like the guy could finally find some resolve for her. Their whole story in its entirety was incredibly sad, he lost his reason to wield that sword :(
VerifiedThe new/added threats to the protagonists' opponents felt impossibly strong! When Subaru had his revelation, I felt so much relief to know that the battle was still (somewhat) salvageable. The stakes were reinforced so well, its much more entertaining than a one-sided battle.
VerifiedCrusch's ability to speak and inspire the soldiers again was amazing to watch. She's easily one of my favorite characters because of how good a leader she is, and how much more compassionate she can be to Natsuki even as a candidate.

Episode 21 follows the emotional backstory of Wilhelm van Astrea in Episode 20, channeling that personal weight directly into the climax of the White Whale battle — one of the season's most significant action set pieces.
