Episode Context

Coming off episode 17's focus on Goh and Scorbunny's evolution into Raboot, episode 18 pivots sharply back to Ash, formally launching his World Coronation Series journey, the competitive throughline that will drive much of his character arc across the remaining 118 episodes. This early placement establishes the tournament ranking system that becomes the backbone of Ash's progression throughout Pokémon Journeys, setting up countless future battles and rivalries that escalate toward the series' climactic showdowns.
