Roy and Crocalor have such a tight bond that seeing Roy influence a wild Lucario so deeply felt like such a massive moment for how far he has come

Looking at the struggle Ult went through as a kid on the streets of Lumiose puts his whole personality into perspective. Emma stepping in to give him a home and a purpose felt like a perfect bridge to the Kalos games and it made that Mega Evolution with Sableye feel earned.

Tying the story back to Emma and the Looker Bureau is such a great nod to the old games and it makes the world feel so much bigger

Opening that Dusk Ball and trusting Sableye instead of hiding behind a powerful item was a massive step for Ult and the Mega Evolution felt special

I thought Ult was just some edgy rival but seeing him as a homeless kid in Lumiose hit me so hard and I really want him to succeed with Sableye now

I was worried Roy would get overshadowed this arc but his resonance with the Yellow Blast Lucario was the highlight for me and I loved seeing him pull off that Mega Evolution

Learning that Ult was a homeless kid in Lumiose City made his struggle with Mega Evolution feel so much more grounded and seeing Emma take him in was a great addition

Emma showing up at the Looker Bureau made my day because I missed her so much since the XY games and her Ampharos is still the best

Master Mayonnaise was right to tell Ult that he is ignoring Sableye and just focusing on power and that bond is everything for Mega Evolution

I saw that red aura around Roy and it reminded me so much of Ash and his Lucario but it feels like Roy is doing his own thing and I want to see that shiny Lucario

Lucario becoming a total goofball after bonding with Roy was the cutest thing and it shows how much Roy impacts every pokemon he meets

Roy and Crocalor being so in sync during the training match stood out to me and that is exactly why he was able to beat Ult and his Sableye so easily

Roy accidentally Mega Evolving that wild Lucario was such a shock and the way their spirits resonated mid battle looked so cool

Master Mayonnaise is actually a legend for calling out Ult on that unopened Dusk Ball, because you can't force a bond with a fancy poke ball alone
puck_paws's avatar

Yellow Blast Lucario is still such a threat and Roy and Ult heading back for a rematch plus those new trainers with Accelgor and Escavalier looks intense

Roy finally won a big battle without any issues, but it does feel like he is just staying the same to me while Ult gets all the actual character growth.

Ult failing to Mega Evolve because he was too busy thinking about that Dragonite in the Dusk Ball was rough and Master Mayonnaise was right to call him out

It was really interesting to see the show tackle poverty with Ult and Sableye surviving in Lumiose City before Emma found them. Seeing her at the Looker Bureau with that photo of Looker on the wall was such a nice touch for those of us who played X and Y and it explains why Ult is so obsessed with power now.

Emma being at the Looker Bureau was the highlight and it really connects back to her game origins while helping Ult through his struggles

The yellow blast lucario is such a beast and watching Roy and Ult use that defeat to actually start understanding how to get stronger together was better than any basic training

EPISODE CONTEXT

This episode follows directly from Roy's own training-focused arc, rotating the developmental lens onto Ult as Horizons systematically deepens its ensemble cast. It serves as a critical bridge episode, laying the emotional and thematic groundwork for 'Mega Evolution – Bond,' which promises to escalate the series' exploration of trainer-Pokémon connections. The progression from Roy's growth to Ult's mirrors Horizons' broader season strategy of building each character's foundation before converging their arcs.
