crocalor holding that everstone was such a clever way to explain why he has stayed in that form despite all the training roy has done over the last hundred episodes

I think it was cool seeing Roy finally get a Key Stone from Master Mayonnaise since that guy seemed so sketchy at first with all those rocks in his house

ult acting like a total brat toward roy in the beginning made it so much better when they both got humbled by that shiny lucario in the woods

master mayonnaise handing out key stones for free is the most bizarre thing this series has done yet and his name alone makes it hard to take the training seriously

Roy and Lucario's connection suddenly made so much more sense to me after that Kalos flashback; it was really cool getting to see exactly what forged such a deep, trusting bond between them. And gosh, the pacing for this whole three-part arc is feeling just right, letting their story really breathe.

When that yellow blast Lucario just absolutely wrecked Roy and Ult, I was actually kinda shocked! It made me realize this training arc isn't just some throwaway; these guys seriously need to level up if they're gonna stand a chance.

Master Mayonnaise is such a fun character and his eccentric rock collection made the whole Mega Evolution training feel way less generic than the usual gym battles

roy getting destroyed by the yellow blast was a good reminder that he was just a beginner back then and it makes his current power level feel more earned

i almost screamed when looker and croagunk showed up in that photo because i never thought horizons would actually reference characters from the old series and it makes the world feel massive

my heart dropped when that yellow blast lucario just completely overpowered roy and ult without even trying because it shows how much they really need this kalos training

Okay, my jaw dropped watching that Yellow Blast Lucario just absolutely demolish Roy and Alt – I mean, how is *that* the same Pokémon they're supposed to tame later? It makes me totally wonder what kind of training montage or emotional breakthrough is coming.

I am actually obsessed with the fact that Crocalor picked up that specific stone during the training, because it explains so much about the time skip and why he didn't evolve. I love seeing Roy and Alt bickering like that, while they try to figure out how the Yellow Blast works since that Lucario is clearly on another level entirely.

When I saw that blurry figure in the background, a part of me instantly screamed "Looker!" – seriously, it felt like a total fever dream. Now I can't help but speculate if this is just the beginning, and we'll eventually get to see more classic faces from Ash's era join the Horizons adventure.

It feels a bit weird having Liko and Dot totally off screen but Roy really needed this time to show how he actually grew during that year away

the way mega gardevoir looked in that brief fight was a bit disappointing compared to the lucario transformation but seeing roy start his journey in kalos was a nice change of pace

I am still trying to process seeing Looker and Emma in that blurry photo because it feels like the first time the show is acknowledging the old world. Roy getting his Lucario origin story in Kalos is exactly what he needed and I think Master Mayonnaise is a hilarious addition to the cast even if he seems a bit suspicious

The backstory of how Roy and his Lucario met was exactly what I wanted because the present day version always felt a bit flat. The Yellow Blast was such a cool concept and seeing it just sitting there meditating like some legendary master was exactly the kind of energy Roy needed to encounter. It really makes his current strength feel earned.

It is great to see the series actually diving into the Mega Evolution lore again because it felt like something they were just ignoring for the longest time

My main issue was how slow the start felt but seeing the origins of how Roy got his Lucario finally makes the current power level make more sense

It is hilarious that Master Mayonnaise thinks a middle stage pokemon like Crocalor can mega evolve when it clearly cannot do that

EPISODE CONTEXT

This episode lands after the disbandment of the Rising Volt Tacklers, a pivotal turning point that scattered the cast onto individual paths. Roy's solo training arc begins here, establishing new relationships and personal stakes that feed directly into subsequent episodes exploring the challenges he and his companions face apart. It marks a transitional stretch of the series where character-specific growth takes priority over the group dynamic.
