The moment ash starts caring more about pikachu than himself is what sold me on this series. The introduction of team rocket was a cool intro too. Simple episode but very memorable.

Must watch, create bond

Episode Context

Directly following the pilot where Ash received Pikachu and their reluctant partnership was forged through shared danger, this episode deepens that bond while expanding the world around them with recurring allies and antagonists. It functions as a critical setup episode, establishing the show's episodic formula and introducing Team Rocket as persistent foils. From here, Ash's journey shifts toward building his team and earning his first badges across the Kanto region's 276-episode initial run.
