Okko's Inn

Animation is gorgeous and the art style is so cute! And I am totally loving how unique the plot is and how it really brings up the subject of grief and trauma through the perspective of a child.

You'd think this movie wouldn't hurt you in the feels, right? After all, the key visual is full of smiling faces and bright colors. THEN YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY WRONG!! . This movie unlike with the TV version focuses more on Okko's grief and how she copes with it. So buckle up, grit your teeth and get ready to be hit right in the feels. Watching this movie felt like stepping into a Ghibli film. The art style, character expressions and animation are all so close to that iconic Ghibli charm. I even managed to fool a friend into believing it was a Ghibli film😆

Episode 1 is a heartfelt start. Watching Okko adjust to her grandmother's inn while meeting the playful ghost Uribo mixes warmth with sadness. The ending, where she begins accepting her role as the young innkeeper, is especially charming.
