Wolf Children

Synopsis
A quiet, mysterious guy from Hana's college classes turns out to be the last living werewolf, and instead of running, she falls for him, and they start a family together. Their two kids, Yuki and Ame, inherit dad's ability to shift between human and wolf forms, which is adorable until you realize what it means for a mother trying to keep her family safe and their secret hidden. When tragedy strikes early on, Hana is left to raise two half-wolf children completely on her own, and the movie becomes this deeply personal story about what it actually costs to let your kids figure out who they are. This is a Mamoru Hosoda film from Studio Chizu, and it hits with the same quiet emotional weight as My Neighbor Totoro, that sense of a family navigating something extraordinary in ordinary, rural Japan. If you liked The Girl Who Leapt Through Time or found yourself tearing up during A Silent Voice, this movie operates in that same space where gentle storytelling sneaks up and just floors you. The animation is gorgeous, shifting seamlessly between cozy domestic scenes and wide, breathtaking countryside shots. The soundtrack knows exactly when to pull back and when to swell. It's a movie about motherhood, identity, and growing up, told through a fantasy lens that makes it feel both universal and completely unique. Bring tissues. You'll need them.

Ughhhh sad but lovey ending
I really enjoyed this movie. It gave me so many mixed emotions. I felt a little sad about what happened to them, but at the same time, I admired the mother’s courage and how understanding she was of the paths her children chose for themselves.
Such a wonderful movie. I cried so hard, ngl. It leaves a mix of sweet and bitter feelings. The characters and plot are well written. A beautiful film about parenting. 10/10, would recommend it to anyone!! (The animation is a bit wonky, but it doesn’t matter )
This movie is beautiful and full of emotion. The story is put together exceptionally well, giving every character enough development without straying too far from the main point. If you're an emotional person, expect to shed a few tears. It's definitely worth watching.
so sad but so good
The animation is gorgeous, the music is soft and touching, and the story makes you appreciate family even more.
Hana’s journey raising Ame and Yuki in the countryside is a beautiful tribute to motherhood. The contrast between the children’s paths, one choosing humanity, the other the wild, is handled with such grace. Pure emotional resonance!
It isn't just a "fantasy" movie; it’s a universal story about parenting and identity. It captures the specific, messy joys of raising children the ruined furniture, the sleepless nights, and the terrifying moment they start making their own choices
this movie is a love letter to single moms. hana's grind is relentless, and the way the film captures the quiet beauty of rural life hits different. slow at times, but the emotional payoff is worth it. if you've ever had a parent who gave everything, you'll cry.
A film that draws tears not from sorrow, but from pure, overwhelming warmth. It needs no words to express a mother's love and affection. So soothing, so gentle, like a soft breeze on a quiet evening. Got a headache? Skip the medicine, just let this anime heal you from within.
This movie is a 10/10 for its emotional plot to the point it made me cry because of the realistic situation that many single mothers experience in raising their children ( except for having a wolf part haha ). A very Interesting story i love it ❤️
