Nurarihyon and Youhime’s backstory is so sweet and it gives the Kyoto arc real emotion and history. I think this is one of the better flashback episodes!
To be honest, I never expected an outright flashback, continuing the previous episode, as I thought we'll get bits and pieces here and there. But this episode, we get a flashback on why the Nura clan reacted the way they did when hearing Hagoromo Gitsune's name. This is a laid back-ish episode, mostly concerned about the political climate at the time and explaining why things happened they way they did. I'm quite surprise at Nurarihyon's past, but enjoyed his seemingly mischievous antics lol, which kind of bleeds into his older life too. I do wonder what will happen now, since I think we'll continue this flashback to the next episode as well.
Interestingly, the setup of this episode was exceptionally rich in narrative substance through its flashback, which offers a profoundly deeper insight into where this storyline began and where it might ultimately head. Despite its slower pacing, it is genuinely intriguing and engaging by how this directly establishes the backbone of the entire narrative arc.
